I am reading The Healthy HighTech Body by Oz Garcia and he has a chapter on Hair Loss and Regrowth. He suggests taking the amino acid lysine or Arginine Pyroglutamate w/ lysine by Ultimate Nutrition.

Does anyone use this supplement? If so, what has been your experience with it?

Lysine is the only amino acid you get from red meat. I think you would be better off taking an amino acid complex, which contains all the amino acids, including lysine.

I just go this from walmart I thought it was the one in eggs but I was wrong I will still take it or take it back, I really hope it works what are some more benifits to lysine ? ty

This is some of what it says about Lysine in "Prescription For nutritional Healing:"

"... Lysine is an essential amino acid, and so cannot be manufactured in the body. It is therefore vital that adequate amounts be included in the diet. Deficiences can result in anemia, bloodshot eyes, enzyme disorders, HAIR LOSS , and inability to concentrate, irritability, lack of energy, poor appetite, reproductive disorders, retarded growth, and weight loss. Food sources of lysine include cheese, eggs, fish, lima beans, milk, potatoes, red meat, soy products and yeast ... "

Hope this helps. There was more information, but that's the paragraph that mentioned hairloss.

Something I just came across..

L-Cysteine and L-Methionine are the sulfur amino acids that form "keratin," which is the protein structure of hair. Studies have shown that supplementing with L-cysteine may prevent hair from falling out, as well as increase the diameter of the hair shaft. These amino acids have been found to increase hair growth by as much as 100 percent. Egg yolk contains the highest amount of these two amino acids. Another easy way to add sulfur to your diet is to take MSM.

It was from an article on aging.

I've been taking it for about a month. I think it's increased my hair growth some. It's not as easy to tell because it's time for a touch up and I've got a lot of shrinkage happening. What I have noticed, though are changes in my skin and nails. My skin is a lot smoother and clearer. And my nails are growing like a weed, so I'm going to go through this jar and then find an amino acid complex and see what happens.
Take care,
G

Green what brand are you taking, Is anyone taking rexall super Lysine 1000 mg, I got it from Walmart, spring valley is not good, but I want to start taking it, but I also want to detox or something so I can see better results, is anyone seeing good result even without doing some type of body cleaning thanks

Happy,
I am using the Spring Valley from WalMart and it's working fine for me. I wanted to try that before the amino acid complex.
A detox is a good idea and you might also try some digestive enzymes to help your body assimilate the vitamins. I take papaya enzymes regularly throughout the day- Spring Valley also.
Take care,
G

Hi Happy,
I am very happy with Lysine. I've been taking it regularly since the last post and my hair has been growing in very healthy. I have really noticed a difference in my nails- they don't split anymore and are very strong.
My little 3.97 bottle is a keeper!
Take care,
G

I have not taken it long enough to know. but I dont want to let it go to waste. do u measure ur growth, if so how much do u get each month since taking it? Thanks for the reply.

Has anyone tried both lysine and cysteine? I have ben using NAC-Cysteine and my hair has been growing faster. I don't wanna switch or alternate if the lysine won't work as well.
