Even relaxers that say "No Lye" have some lye in them. "No Lye" really means "Contains less lye than relaxers that do not advertise "no lye" on the box", lol.

Thanks for taking the time out to answer my question. Ive read your credentials so I most definitely trust your opinion.

I am considering relaxing again and I will give lye a try. I remember how dry and dull my hair was back with no lye kits.

Your welcome and good luck with your decision! ;)

When I get professional touch-ups my stylist uses lye relaxers. The last was Mizani.

I voted no-lye. Only because I think it is safer for me to do myself. At home I use Profectiv Procision Touch. Now that I understand the moisture/protein balance and what you need with each type of relaxer, my hair is doing well. Since I'm using no-lye now, I mainly concentrate on moisturizing treatments and keep my protein treatments on a schedule.

Same wit me too.....but not only did my hair became dull looking ..I found out that I had to get a touch up like Every 4-5 weeks :nono:...as wit lye I could hould out 8 + weeks!!...and my hair was more vibrant! :yep:

I'm a LYE girl! No Lye made my hair dull and dry

Lye gets my vote.. All I know with a no - lye relaxer that means that my hair would always break off. With lye my hair doing much better

No-lye dried my hair out to a straw-like texture. Had it not been for no-lye, maybe I'd still relax today. Anyway, I'm happy to be natural so there's no going back now.

I was in between....up until I tried Lye yesterday and...I think....I would perfer the feel of Lye compared to No Lye. I used No Lye for years and wanted to try something different sdue to all these theread about it. So far, i can say that Lye is a keeper! I have to learn to apply it quicker though, it burned a tad bit but I only leave my relaxers in for about 5 mins or so without smoothing. So, i did not mind having to wash it out right away. My hair felt like it had more body without me having to put as many products in it too, like right after I washed and DC'd. With No Lye, I had to do a few things to obtain the type of feel I wanted. Less is best so, I am going with Lye for my Texlaxing for now until.......

I figured I would do something different to jump off the celebration of my 1 year Hair Care Completion!

I voted "lye." But, that's only because every no-lye relaxer I've tried has underprocessed my hair. :yep:

No - Lye....................My hair retains more body and my strands are not as weak.

My hair is dry no matter which I use unless I put moisturizer and seal w/a lite grease after I wash. Then my hair is soft.............honestly people can't tell which I use.

I used lye perms for years, then my beautician told me that it was too strong for my hair and introduced to Designer Touch no lye. I was skeptical at first, but I noticed my hair was stronger and began to grow. It's been about a year and I'll:grin: never go back to regular lye perms.

I chose no-lye. I recently relaxed my hair with a lye relaxer and it literally did nothing!!! I am completly underprocessed. I can only wait 4wks before relaxing with the no lye perm.

I USED MIZANI LYE FOR WHAT, 10-15 YEARS. OH, IT GOT MY HAIR STRAIGHT, BUT TOO STRAIGHT. I COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY MY HAIR WOULD GET LONG, BUT WAS ALWAY'S THIN, SHEDDING AND BREAKING.
BACK IN MARCH I TRIED PHYTO II WHICH WAS NO LYE. IMMEDIATLY MY HAIR WAS STRONGER AND HAD A THICKER, HEAVIER FEEL. IT ALSO FELT A BIT DRYER WITH NO LYE WHICH I DID NOT CARE FOR.

3 MONTHS LATER I TRIED AFFIRM FIBERGUARD NO-LYE. I WAS HAPPY WITH THAT ONE AS WELL, FULLER HAIR, STRAIT BUT STILL A DRYER FEEL. I FINALLY CONCLUDED THAT:

LYE=SUPER STRAIT RELAXED HAIR THAT HOLDS MOISTURE BETTER BUT WAS ALWAYS FLAT AND LIMP SOON AFTERWARDS. ALSO IT BURNS THE SCALP AND I HAD MEGA SHEDDING AND BREAKAGE CONSTANTLY.

NO-LYE=STRAIGHT ENOUGH BUT NOT FLATHEAD STRAIGHT HAIR THAT HAS BODY AND FULLNESS. MY HUSBAND DOES NOT BUG ME AS MUCH ANYMORE ABOUT MY HAIR BEING ALL OVER THE FLOOR BECAUSE IT SIMPLY DOES NOT SHED AND BREAK NEARLY AS MUCH. HAIR HAS A DRYER FEEL, BUT CASTOR OIL HAS FIXED THAT PROBLEM BEAUTIFULLY.

THE MORAL OF MY STORY IS, I NOW HAVE A THICKER HEAD OF HAIR THAT DOES NOT SHED LIKE A DOG AND SNAP EVERY TIME I PUT A COMB TO IT. I CAN DEAL WITH THE DRYER FEEL. SO WITH THAT SAID, I WILL RIDE WITH NO-LYE FROM NOW ON

I was glad to see this one! I voted LYE I have always used MOtions Salon Herbals (green one) and then i decided a few weeks ago to try ORS no lye...which at first I was like it really moisturized my hair but still got texlaxed (my hair never gets bone straight). But now I've been shedding like crazy and it has never been like that with my lye relaxer.

:ohwell:does anyone know if it's damaging to go from lye to no lye and then back to lye?

Lye, lye, lye..Mild Lye. My hair is softer, flows better, much less stiffness, dryness and minimal breakage.I've learned to protect my strands and base even before my salon visit. I love the way my hair lifts and blows in the wind on those rare hours after my touchups when I am un-bunned or braided.

Most definitely lye. My hair comes out more softer and silkier with lye. The difference between my lye relaxed hair and no-lye relaxed hair is incredible. I just wish I used lye much sooner.

I'm not sure yet. For my next touch up I will be using ORS no-lye out of curiousity. Hopefully it will not be something I regret. Silk elements does a great job and straightening my hair but it's still a bit puffy and not as smooth as I think ors will make my hair..... we'll see.

kinda off topic but hey Dee I've been using ORS No-Lye for over a year now and just recently tried Sil Elements 3 weeks ago and ORS is def the better choice. Silk Elements left my hair dry, shedding, and underprocessed...back to the drawing board....
