lye no-lye what\'s the best.....

Hey you guys..I've been reading some of the post and I noticed that some of you say lye is better then no lye and vice versa..I'm totally confused

. Can you guys help enlighten me as this forum has done with so many other aspects of hair care

. Sorry if this thread was posted already I did a search but I could not find a specific thread that addressed this. So which one is better and why do you think it's better for your hair?

It's all individual.

Lye leaves me underprocessed and strips color from my hair. Never had that problem with AFrican Pride, so I went back.
Other people had dryness problems with no-lye which were solved by switching to lye.

i use affirm. no-lye and i haven't had any problems.

I switched to no-lye when I first got pregnant and got the longest lecture about how much better lye relaxers are. My mother has a book by someone named Shambooz (sp?) and one thing that is mentioned is that no-lye relaxers actually cause cuticle swelling as well as dry and brittle hair.

Exactly I do not know if I need to switch back to lye relaxers...I use to use lye and my hair was alot more oily but I use to have constant shedding..know that I use no lye I have little to no shedding but I have some breakage on one side of the hair and I have to constantly keep my ends moisturized..I don't know what to do..more replys please....

It truly depends on the individual. I have always used no lye relaxers and have been happy with the results I have gotten but others have gotten great results with lye relaxers. You have to figure out which one is best for your hair. That might involve a little experimenting.

No-Lye's ( Calcium Hydroxide) are simply synthetic versions of Lye, Example Human hair weft vs Yacky synthetic. Lye is considered a "natural" alkline substance (it's a crystal) that is often used in "natural" soap. The general rule is that Lye is easier, of the two chemicals on your hair, and No Lye is easier on the scalp.
