Hello all!

I've been lurking for centuries and have decided to become more active and come out of hiding! I don't have a digital camera but will probably get one later this spring as a birthday gift (so hopefully I can post pics to share).

Anyway, I've had the same stylist since summer of 2003 and absolutely love her! When I first went to her, she told me to get touch ups every 6-8 weeks (which I did), she would blow dry my hair straight and clip the ends with every touchup. I would sit in her chair and she would grab the scissors and say "yep, it's about that time again" or say "you're getting a trim today, right?" Even if I had just dusted my ends, she would grab the scissors and start clipping away.

After reading about how many of you rollerset your hair (indirect heat) I started having my stylist rollerset my hair instead of blow drying it and I started stretching my relaxers to every 3 months. I started rollersetting around January or February 2005. Here is the deal-I have noticed that since I started getting my hair rollerset, my stylist has not even mentioned trimming my ends ONE time in over a year!!! She never even mentions it or suggests that I need a trim (which she used to do). What gives?! Anyone else had a similar experience? I am not complaining, I am just not sure why all of a sudden she isn't scissor happy anymore . . .

Hey--hasn't happened to me

but Welcome!! Maybe your ends are just in good shape! or maybe she has learned a thing or two and is not scissor happy anymore

Are u natural or relaxed?

It could simply be that your ends aren't as fried b/c you aren't blowdrying.

BTW: Welcome!
WHOOO ITA!!! When I blowdried my ends would crisp up somethign fierce but once I started rollersetting all was well. If you dont think your ends look bad then the two of yall are doing something right.

Thanks for making me feel so welcome!!

The only time I blow dried my hair was every 2 months for the relaxer touch up so I didn't think I was frying my ends that much beforehand, but you could be right. I was thinking that maybe she just automatically trims ends after she blow dries as habit and not because the ends really need to be clipped.

Hello and thank you!! I am relaxed (but not bone straight). When my hair is air dried it looks like 3b/3c texture.

Love your name "beyondcute"!!!

I don't think my ends look much different from when she was blowdrying cause I only had that direct heat on my hair about once every 2 months but maybe my hair can't tolerate direct heat no matter how infrequent. Oh well, I can't complain. I used to pout because I thought she trimmed too much, so I should just shut up and be happy! At least i can retain some length now . . .

Hi and welcome. Like everyone else said apparently rollersetting agrees with you. That's so wonderful.

Welcome!!!! I do trim less often when i rollerset. I think its something about how the ends are dried and protected on the rollers....

That's what I was thinking. Your ends are probably healthier and need less trimming now. Welcome to the board.

You all are probably right-guess I am just naturally suspicious. I am actually scheduled to get my hair rollerset tomorrow evening after work.

Thanks for all the love, ladies!!

to LHCF, Sashaa08! I agree w/ the others, it could be due to your hair getting healthier.

 Welcome to the board!

I think I can relate. When you get your hair rollerset, do you leave with your hair wrapped or with the ends really curled under? Maybe it is because she doesn't want to send anyone out of the shop without tiptop ends, but if no one can see them she probably doesnt worry. She may be doing it for business.

Welcome to the board Sasha!

ITA with MaCherie. It has been my experience that out of people who always wear their hair down or loose, that those who primarily wear rollersets have longer, healthier hair than those who wear it straight. I am not sure why, but I am guessing it has to do with using less heat, and that the ends are sort of protected when the hair is curled up, and they aren't comstantly rubbing against your clothes and whatnot.
