Has anyone purposely cut off more of their natural hair after their transition? I'm going to have too much hair for it to be considered a TWA...and I really wanna experience it :look: So I'm thinking of cutting off more than just my relaxed ends when I BC. I could also just stop transitioning now (or sooner than planned). But we'll see..

Has anyone done this after a long transition to experience a TWA?

OP, I don't know what your hair texture is but if you are 4B, you can experience a TWA at almost any length, so there's no need to cut off your natural hair. Just wash it, allow shrinkage to take place, and pat the hair down some more if you want it even more compact. Voilà!

I thought a BC meant a "big chop" meaning you cut off a lot, usually more than you leave behind but not necessarily. I didn't think a BC simply meant cutting hair to a TWA. If you had APL hair and transitioned for 2 years and then had about SL natural hair and you then BC the relaxed hair down to the SL then because you chopped off a big chunk, then you BC'd as far as I'm concerned.

 yea, I no. But I'm saying that I might want to chop off even more of my natural hair. Like if I had APL hair (which I don't lol) and transitioned for 2 years and had about SL natural hair...but I cut it down to about NL natural hair for my BC. And I was wondering if anyone had done it like this. ?? Does this clarify? Or am I misreading your response? :giggle:

You know what, this is a good idea. I just may do this
I think I'm 4a, btw.

No, I was the one misreading your post. My apologies.

But you're not allowed to cut more than necessary, says me! :bat: Once you BC, you'll discover the world of shrinkage and discover just how much more versatile you hair is. It won't be just about being able to change the texture as you wish by how you style it, but with type 4 hair, you can even change its length appearance from one day to the next.

:lol: I'm scared of you! But yay! I can't wait to be fully natural

What she said

I'm 3C, waist length, lots of shrinkage, and if I use no product and fluff out my hair I'll have a nice Afro. At SL I easily had a TWA (well maybe not too teeny weeny LOL)

My opinion is a bit different coz shrunken down hair isn't the same as short hair - otherwise the military, and other dress codes etc., wouldn't have guidelines or rules about it. They'd just say "close cut required ... or ... for those who have curly hair ... just let it shrink ...". A twa is a tighter and neater look than shrunken down hair. It's also easier to maintain. It just depends on what you want.

I've never intentionally transitioned just stopped using relaxers and cut. But I do understand wanting to experience a twa and I have cut my hair for that reason several times. Hair grows. I colored my hair 5 days ago, I have "roots" already and I'm in the slow growers category. Just do whatever you're comfortable with.

^^ I guess it depends on what your definition of TWA is. Up to 3 inches to me is a TWA.

I called my hair a TWA when it was this length (about 3 inches stretched):

This is my hair in 2008 at full SL shrunken and patted down--which gives you an idea of how small I can make my TWA and it looks pretty neat to me:

And the same hair same week but braid-stretched:

This is my hair 2009 when it was between SL and APL and shrunken and combed out but not patted down, which explains why it's not a perfect round afro (I was getting ready to flat iron so I wasn't going anywhere like this so no need to shape it):

I say if you want to do it...do it; but I don't understand why transition so long if you want a twa? If that (twa) is your goal and desire, go for it.

For me, the answer would be HECK NO! :lachen:

I just want hair...a lot of hair.
I never once thought about a twa. I have never experienced it. I don't have an interest in experiencing it. Actually, I never even heard the term until well over a year after my last relaxer.
I want long plaits! So, I am going for it.

I just assumed that most women transition for a long time because they do not want a twa and want to keep some length. I'm probably wrong.

Wow! @ your shrinkage!

Yea, that's what I would consider a TWA (1st pic) :yep: Btw, your eyebrows look fierce and from what I can see of your earrings, I like them :)

As for your last pic: you don't wear your hair out like that ever? You should! I like it!

:giggle: Thanks girl, but I'm from the school of not being satisfied unless my afro looks close to Bernie Mac's :p

As for the eyebrows, Milani Eyebrow Pencil is to thank for that; they aren't real.

No, you're probably right. I'm just a weirdo :lachen: See, what I was thinking was, I could transition for a long time, and then have the hair in case I wanted to keep it all, but if not, then cut more off  But now I'm leaning way more towards just letting it shrink up on it's own :yep:

ETA: I love your twists in your siggy!

When I bc'd the back had to be cut more or I would have looked like I had a mullet :look:. But yeah if you're a 4a your hair will coil up tighter than you think. I've been talking to myself and calming myself down lately because when wet I have a nice little bob but once dry it shrinks right back into a TWA.

I enjoyed having a TWA but if I had transitioned longer I would've just left it how it was, not cut it anymore. Right now my hair's a funky length and I'm thinking about how easy my TWA was and missing it. Just wake up, finger comb and go for the most part. Once it grows in after a few months it becomes a pain and takes on a mind of its own

If you're itching to chop and you're absolutely sure you want to and aren't afraid of having short hair, go for it!!!! It grows back so fast you wont have a TWA for too long. :yep:
