CurlyMoo, I use mine approximately 2-3 times a year.WOW, I haven't noticed that on mine. But then again I only use it twice a year. I've had it for 2 years now. Did you get any chemicals on it?
@CurlyMoo, I use mine approximately 2-3 times a year.
I didn't get any chemicals on it. Atleast not that I know of. I keep it in a safe place, so I don't think its that at all.
Yup.mine did that after a few uses. I used it after it started chipping, and my ends thinned out so badly after just that one use. Totally my fault, but the end result was drastic.
I wouldn't risk it a second time.
I have to admit that my current Maxiglide is a replacement of one that stopped working when I took it to Germany. So actually I've had this one for one year.
Ok I just called my sister and asked her if she is having the same problem with hers. Yes I woke her up.And she said she isn't having that problem.
Do you clean your iron with alcohol based products? Perhaps some alcohol in your hair products?
CurlyMoo, thanks for checking it out with your sister. I hope she wasn't terribly upset with you for waking her upI have to admit that my current Maxiglide is a replacement of one that stopped working when I took it to Germany. So actually I've had this one for one year.

SerenavanderWoodsen, the coating on the plate is going off. The plate is supposed to be black but it is grey in that one area due to the ceramic coating coming off.Wait, what's the problem? I'm not very familiar with Maxiglide.
Are you referring to the blue color?
Mine is doing that right around the teeth on my plate with the pins. That's why I was trying to figure out how well the flat plate will work so I can switch.
I was thinking some hair products might have rubbed it off also.
OT- you said your flat iron stopped working when you went over seas, this happened to me years ago. I was traveling to another state and when I landed and tried to use my cheap wal mart flat iron it wouldn't work anymore. I told my friend the air plan pressure must have messed it up and she thought I was crazy. Why do you think your flat iron stopped working?
@Ms. Tiki, I found this on their website in the FAQ section.
Q. I noticed some of the coating coming off of the ceramic pins on my MAXIglide; can this be harmful to the hair?
A. Not at all. This does not affect your hair or the performance of your MAXIglide.
I am not sure that I believe this answer or that I like it. There is a reason why they coated the plates, pins and all with ceramic, otherwise they wouldn't have done it. Thats just how I see it.
I dont believe their answer either @Mandy4610. LOL. Personally I would just replace it . I wouldnt use it as the heat probably wont be distributed evenly anymore , which leaves your hair prone to burning . I have had mine for more than two years and this hasnt happened yet .
lustrous, mine did stop working when I went to Zambia even though I was using an adaptor it still got shot. My dad fixed it for me and I never had a problem until the coating started coming off.for those who went overseas could your irons have stopped working because of the change in electrical wiring and voltage in different countries? I believe there are special adaptors that you are supposed to use when taking appliances to other countries. Ive read about things being damaged because they are made in accordance w the US voltage system only. just an observation/thought.
Guitarhero, I actually only use distilled water in it.Calcium deposit from hard water. Are you supposed to use distilled water? calcium deposits can mess with the electrical something awful. Since it's a small appliance, have it replaced rather than attempt to fix it.
