All About Me!
Do you all think hair grows longer in the summer and if so, why? If it does, than that's great because I average 3/4 inch in the last 6 months.

Interesting! How much have you all averaged per month in the summer months. I live in Florida, so from May - October it feels like perpetual summer.

I am not sure...I have never measured the rate of growth,

but I know it grows faster....

I was wondering about this too, more importantly what I could do to help that summer spurt along

, here's a thread with some great ideas for maximizing your summer growth spurt HTH: Summer Growth

I wonder how true the heat statement is. I too live in Florida where it feels like Summer all year long. I find no differnce in my hair growth with differnt seasons of the year.

I've never really noticed, but this summer will be different. I'm trying to be consistent with my vitamin intake, keep my scalp clean and use my Frenchee's to obtain maximum growth for the summer.

I've also learned that heat increases blood circulaton to the scalp. Which means regular exercise will work in the same way.

I had heard (here I think) that it was do to the increased sunlight in summer months whih might explain why those in hot climates only get more growth in traditional summer months. So if this is true, I wonder if a sun lamp might work to increase growth?

when i got my hair cut during the summer a couple of years back by a shs it grew back quite quick. so i do beleive hair grows faster during the summer.

Sunlight growing hair. Hmmm. Like plants?

If it really is the ultraviolet rays of the sun itself that stimulates growth, then a sun lamp would in theory work. I still believe it's due to increased scalp stimulaton from heat but you could be right. I would like to learn more about this to see exactly how the summer effects on our hair can be duplicated.

I believe warmer climates thin the blood thus causing it to circulate more and nourish the body more if you are taking vitamins or eating right. I say this because I use to live in Hawaii where it was warm almost all year long. During that time I was eating really well, taking vitamins, and working out regularly. During that time, my hair grew so much you would have thought I was pregnant (taking those good vitamins...heehee). I'm sure the moisture in the air also contributed to my healthy, long hair. But, even now, during the summer I find my hair grows at a much faster rate. I tend to keep it in ponytails (protective style?) a lot in the summer too, so that may help with the growth also.

Your hair does grow faster in summer, you can get good growth in the winter also, but you have to keep your hair moisturised plus, doing a lot of exercise, particularly keeping your blood circulating, drinking lots of water, even though you don't really feel like it.

Well shoot Isis, now I don't know, because I could have sworn it was you who put forth the sunlight theory.

I would remember something important like that! I did post in the past about benefits of more circulation to the scalp like exercise or something warm on the head. I did a search on myself anyway, just in case.

I couldn't find anything though. I did a search on that topic in general and I didn't find anything about sunlight increasing hair growth. Usually I'm protecting my head with a hat or umbrella when out in the sun. Maybe someone else knows something.

<font color="purple">I wish I lived in California. I love the warm weather, and my hair would've loved it even more. Maybe I'll live out there for one year. I'm so used to the cold winters here, that I think I may be crazy to have Xmas in warm December. Whoa, hair. Take it easy already!!!
