How in the heck do you tame those edges???

Scarf method?

Flat ironing?

Hot comb (stove? electric?)

Product tips and suggestions?

What hair type are you? (I am Type 4z :giggle:)

Also, how often does your head/hair get wet? If you work out a lot I imagine it's difficult to maintain the straight edges....

I'm tired of my new growth taking over my whole head  I want to be able to mask the fact that I'm dealing with two textures in order to preserve my (I daresay) sexy before hitting the salon . . . .

THANKS!!!

Hi,

I have this problem too. I'm a heat-loving natural and I always wear straight styles (until my hair grows out of TWA stage - BC'd a month ago). I was just watching youtube videos a little bit ago. One lady puts a cotton headband around her edges under her shower cap and when she washes her face. She also used shea butter to lay her edges down.

Unfortunately, my problem isn't my edges. Its my entire head! I run track, so I sweat PROFUSELY 5x a week, and my hair poofs up like crazy. I have no cure for it. I just end up looking crazy all the time. This didn't happen when I was relaxed, and I'm not quite sure why I decided to go natural while running every day.. But I know when I graduate and no longer have track practice I will be glad I went natural. Also I'm hoping the BKT I get done next week will calm it all down.

Ah well....:spinning:

I can always count on aloe vera gel and a satin scarf to lay my edges down. But most recently, using my tangle teaser to brush my edges after putting in my moisturizers works fine. I'm 4a/b and sitting at 21 weeks post and my edges are tamed like I'm sporting a fresh relaxer. :yep:

Oh, while stretching, I cowash weekly but I do a whole head baggy at night so, my hair is damp when I wake up. That just makes it that much easier to brush my edges down with my tangle teaser or slap on some A.V.G and a satin scarf for about 10 minutes or so. Voila!

I don't remember how many weeks post I am in this pic but, this is how flat my hair gets with aloe gel and a satin scarf. Oh, and notice the shine. It was damp from the baggy, avg added and brushed before the satin scarf was tied tightly to flatten my edges.

I use the scarf method. Before going to bed, I'll put a little moisturizer and IC Olive Styling Gel around my edges, brush with a soft boar brush and tie my head up with the scarf. I have nice smooth edges in the morning. Once my IC gel is used up I plan to use aloe vera gel.
