I am guilty! guilty! guilty! and now i need your help. I have been a member since 2006 and i have lurked for all that time. I am impressed with the tremendous improvement and photos of your growth and thickness, but I confess, I have been wearing the glued in tracks for years and I am tired of the thiness of my hair and also I want to be able to wear my own hair in 2008. I have severe damage from trying to be cute and really torturing myself and my hair. I want to know what steps i can take to repair the hair that i have left so that i can be confident about taking care of my hair because right now i have a hue complex because of the damage. Please tell me there is hope for me and I promise no more glue.

Welcome.

Cut of the damaged hair: splits and ragged/chewed-up ends. Read through the info here, and try to figure out which regimen would work best with your goals, lifestyle, budget, etc. The search function here could be a crap shoot at times, but it does work.

There are so many different ways to go about it. Some go natural for a while, some do the Crown and Glory method, etc. Whatever you decide, treat your hair like fine silk, handle it gently, deep-condition at least once a week, give heat a break or use it less frequently, and look into moisturizers and oils to keep your hair on track. Also read info about balancing protein and moisture.

First and foremost, get rid of what is damaged, and assess what is left. If possible, take a pic and post it here...so that we can try to help you further. Also, there are great books out there that are great references.

ITA! Lady, you hit it right on the head! The 5 most important things are:

Clean your scalp (1-2x per wk)
Lubricate your hair with oil
Strengthen hair with protein
Moisturize your hair daily (2x)
