I have been meaning to post this for months... I had a minor set-back. It really didn't matter too much b/c I'm transitioning, but I just wanted to put it out there...

I had kinky-esque-twists done. I trimmed prior to the install. I searched here and other places about the hot water damaging my ends and felt assured it would be okay. Especially by the hair dresser.

I ended up with damage from it. I had splits and such that went up 2-3 inches (possibly more, I had a trim, but I need to do a S&D).

I only had the twists in for 9 days.

I will say that my curls started higher than most kinky twists I have seen and that may be why. Just be hesitant of curling the ends of your hair if your hair will be in the water.

It seems so common sense, but hey...If I can help one person from a set-back...cool.

I'm generally fine w/ heat so...yeah...and I generally don't get split ends.

i did kinkies too and i curled mine high too, but i didnt have the same damage. It seems your hair may be really sensitive to the kinkier textured hair. what brand did you use. Did you moisturize your hair before install?

I did moisturize and all of that jazz. I used the marley braid hair. I did do the soak to remove the alkaline. I would have never thought the hair would do that... Yeah, this weave thing is a lot...

If it was the hair texture or hot water...
I just want people to aware that PS can do damage and to be careful...

How hot is the water that they use? I mean...I wash my hair in hot water w/ no problems.

It was "cooling" steaming water... I don't know how else to describe it. They microwaved it. Let it cool a little and dip. I didn't think too much harm could result b/c I knew it was very common to do, but hey...you live and learn.

I think she left my hair in the water too long. jmo...

Some people can take it...just like any other hair process...don't want to scare anyone...just want them to be aware.

Thank you for posting this. The same thing happened to me over the summer. I did a search, and didn't find any information about this problem.

My hair was pushing APL, so it was almost the same length as the kinky twists. I curled my ends with perm rods in boiling hot water, and had to re-curl after almost every wash. I didn't realize until several weeks later that the hot water was damaging my ends.

I had to get a 4-inch haircut in September. Besides the hot water, the kinky twist hair tangled in my natural hair and caused damage. I also had a porosity problem, so I can't exclusively blame the twists for the haircut, but they did contribute to the damage.

Be careful with kinky twists, ladies!
