Hey, I live in Ky too. I go to Nick. I'm sure yall know about him. He's decent, just takes LONGGG, and tries to let his other stylists do your hair why he steps out of the shop. Nick does not know how to style long hair either, and is always in a hurry to put heat on your head. I'm sure yall feel my pain. There is no one really in the city that knows much about hair health. Beasley's Shop just opened up on 7th Street. My aunt goes to Connie (Beasley). Now she's pleasant, caring and listens to your suggestions. I may have to go to her eventually. I used to go to Shear Excellance. Tiffany would do my hair. She can style your hair like something outta this world. BUTTTT, she does not put conditioner on your hair, trims you each visit, and can't wait to put some heat on your head. Oh, and she only does hair Tues, Wed, and Thurs.
Nick's is ok. The shop is clean and free from drama. BUTTTT, depending on what Nick has going on in his personal life, and depending on whether he is actually in the shop or not, will determine what your experience will be. I showed up for my last relaxer, and he was not even there. A girl with hair as dry as a dog's biscuit came up to me and said, "Nick's not here, but I can do your relaxer." That's the only thing, if you can catch him there and in a decent mood, he's ok. I mean, he will keep hair on your head. As far as styling goes, if you have short hair, then your in there. He does try to over book too. I know your wondering why I ever went to him. It just seems that he is the lessor of the other evils so to speak. Our city has NOTHING to offer in the way of hair care.
But, I think I may try Beasley's on 7th St. I went to school with her, she's cool. And she has my Auntie and my cousin's hair grown pretty good. I just hate going from hair stylist to hair stylist though. HTH
Yeah I went to nick one time. I really don't have a stylist though... Okay where on 7th street is Beasley's?? Is it like in that little shop on the corner? Does she style well?
I gave up on trying to find a stylist, mainly because I am in the process of growing out my relaxer and going natural.
So, I have resigned to doing my hair myself.
However, my aunt goes to a place called Bonita's Hair Salon at 1412 N. Broadway (across from the Baseball stadium).
And she has her hair growing in nicely after a bout with severe breakage due to relaxing/coloring overlapping ( and she says Bonita is really nice).
But speaking of Nick, one of his clients told me that he in conjunction with other stylists are having a Hair Show this Sunday (May 18) from 5pm to midnight at the Holiday Inn North Convention Center at 1950 Newtown Pike.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
The flyer says that tix can be bought at local beauty salons and barber shops. You can call 335-6309 for more info.
Also, the flyer says there will be over 60 hair care professionals, Uniqueness Unlimited Modeling prod., live jazz and r&b bands, and vendors.
Soslychic- Michelle Simpson owns "Tresses"(Located on Industry Road). I like her, I only went on several occasions and now I am natural. She takes her time and listens to what you want. Her prices are reasonable. I do not know the other stylists that work there. And speaking of Nick, I recently visted a new salon to have my hair highlighted, His ex-wife done my hair. She was real nice. I know several people who use to go to Nick( I don't know if they still do). But, their hair always looked nice. For those who are natural- There is a guy who works at United hairlines(on Trent Blvd), I read in the newspaper that he does natural hair. Has anyone been to this salon?
