Let it marinate for a few days or not?

Ladies who are natural and implement dual hairstyles, ie two strands/twistouts, braids/braidouts, do you find sitting under the dryer to mold the style is better over styling and allowing it to stay that way for a few days or vice versa?

good question, i would like to know. i havent used heat since my hhj, and i plan to twist my hair soon.

I vote allowing it to stay that way for a few days. Only tried the dryer thing once, and my twistout didn't last as long.

Bumpin' for more replies!

When I braidout, I sit under the dryer for about 30 minutes before sleeping on them. This gives me "silkier" looking results with less shrinkage, and also my hair is completely dry in the morning. No issues with the style lasting.

I let it marinate for days because 1. I just spent a few hrs twisting and can't imagine taking them out right away & 2. My twists are usually done on dry hair and I need to rinse/cowash & air dry to get a good set.

After washing, I just wear the braidout overnight or until it airdries-in the morning my hair is very curly, lots of shrinkage, but that's ok- it looks full and good. The next night, I detangle & moisturize & do the braids again. This one and every subsequent one is more stretched and wavy rather than curly. I rarely wear braids or twists as their own style unless I am around the house- only 2 braids if I do. When I've left this in for more than a day, I haven't liked the results as much.

I just let my hair dry. I know some ladies have had issues with it, but I've never had a problem. And my hair will lock into a set like no one's business. Even to the point that have to do some work getting rid of the partings.

It couldn't hurt to try.

i always find braidouts and twistouts look best when they've had time to marinate. the longer it stays in the more the style sets I think.

You absolutely have to let it marinate. I have found that the twistouts last much longer that way. I can get 2 weeks out of wearing twists for 3 days to a week. On the other side, sitting under the dryer-- I get 1 maybe 2 days (not really)...No comparison.

I tried sitting under the dryer like one time with twists and when I took them out was like Eeeeeeeew. I thought it would be a great idea since when I rollerset and sit under the dryer the hair is smooth and shiny.

Just not so with twists under the dryer.

Definitely wearing them for 1 or more days makes for THE best, most definied and most moisturized feeling twist/braid outs for me.
