Less Shedding = Fuller Head of Hair??

As opposed to having more strands of hair?
So, when you see a head of thick hair is it that they shed less or that they have more strands of hair per square? Is that what you are getting at?

Are you saying the less you lose, the more you have? That would be ... logical.

Yes, this is exactly what I mean. I have came to the conclusion the less you shed the more hair you keep, which in turn give you fuller hair. I havent proven my hypothesis yet, but I plan on to...

I have really really thought about this question as well. I figured okay some of us might not have full head of hair (NOT THICK) but how can those who dont do so, I came with the conclusion of shedding less. Which will make not only appear fuller but is fuller.
I dont believe people with full hair they shed less. I am saying those who have thin hair can achieve fuller hair by shedding less.

I am trying to get to the scientific part of why shedding occur. I do know shedding is normal, but a decrease wont hurt. Also, looking at what products help with shedding and keeping this up, even if there isnt any or excessive shedding

Most def.
I shed A LOT ! Especially on wash day, I know there's a 'normal' amount of shedding, but I somehow think that I shed way more than I should and I know that contributes to my hair not being as thick in spite of all of my hair cuts/trims. It is def not breakage, but a lot of shed hair when I wash. This is why I am really trying to wash at most 1x/ a wk now. I loose way too much hair :nono:.

See this is a perfect example.
If you were to stop shedding so much during your wash day, I believe that your hair would be fuller what it is now...

ETA: Or even if you dont shed as much, just a decrease of shedding your hair should be a tad fuller

So not only should we worry about length retention but there must be a way for thickness/fuller rentention

This is my main problem w/ my hair.. it's not the length, or breakage.. it's the shed amount of hair that decreases it's thickness.

One thing, I am changing in my regime is deep conditioning with Alter Ego Garlic Conditioner or always condition with garlic... Or even prepoo over night with garlic and coconut oil before any wash day and still deep condition with alter ego deep conditioner

Currently I am in braids. I spray Nu Gro 2x daily, spray helps with shedding

as my hair gets longer 20 hairs in the brush look like 100 hairs honestly. one day I was curious and I counted all of them  my hair is still very full. as long as I dont have bald patches or thinning Im straight.

Have you read all the existing threads on shedding cessation, and are you looking for that to be repeated, or are you looking for new, additional information?

I have fine hair and my hair really don't shed. I do have a little brakage. I see about 10-15 strands a day. I think that using a no lye relaxer is thining my hair. I plan to relax with a lye relaxer next time. I think that will help to thicken my hair.

I shed a HUGE amount daily, as does my sister, and our heads are VERY VERY full. i always thought that maybe the more hair you have on your head, the more you shed...

Correct me if I'm wrong but the way I understand the growth cycle is that shed hair is pushed out and replaced by a new hair strand and thus your thickness will not be derermined by how much you shed since its getting replaced anyhow.

That's my understanding of the growth cycle as well, but that doesn't contradict her theory assuming that the new hair would be so much shorter than most of your hair that it wouldn't contribute to the overall appearance of thickness.

Well if I shedded the amount of hair that some people with more or thicker strands normally shed I wouldn't have any hair left.

Normal shedding for me is about 15-20 strands on wash day and that's once a week.

I certainly get less shedding than the balls, and balls of hair I used to loose. I count maybe 30 hairs in my sheds during wash day (haven't counted in a while). At the same time though, I know I'm not always getting all the sheds using a wide tooth comb, and wearing my hair in wet buns.

But my hair is much thicker (search for my progress threads), and that I HAVE to attribute to having less shedding!

However, it is normal for hair to shed, and I have no doubt that some people shed over 100 hairs a day.

Normally anything I haven't caught will come out when I am permed post relaxer, but normally, even that is not a lot of hair.

I agree. I swear I don't shead, unless I comb roughly. before I stupidly texturized I had maybeeee 5-10 hairs shead. its like my hair is deeply rooted! my hair in its natural state is so so so full, never does my scalp show unless I do a distinct part.

I don't think its a major factor in having thick hair. I think there is a lot of truth to the statement and it makes sense, but I question whether anything can be done about natural shedding and I don't believe that natural shedding is normally enough to make much of a noticable difference.

I understand what you are saying. When I was shedding excessively at the beginning of this year, my hair lost a lot of its fullness. I was not happy with it at all. I felt that it became thin. Now I hardly shed at all and I am combing more often. I can see that my hair is a lot fuller and it feels fuller and heavier. What you are saying makes perfect sense.

i shed alot during washes also, but it has not decreased the thickness of my hair... but the last few washes the shedding was too too much for me so i'm going to see if i can go 2 weeks before washing as a preventive for the next couple of months... it's gonna be hard as i've always washed my hair at least 1x a week... even before my hair care journey

I dont think so either but I am researching and experimenting. Even started this thread to get inputs and experiences others have tried. I do not have excessive shedding but would love to decrease the amount I do get, to get fuller hair
