Hullo Ladies and that one gentleman we have lurking somewhere... I go off to college in a month and before I go I'm getting my hair relaxed by my favorite stylist. The thing is, when I get my hair relaxed, its silky and straight...until I wash it. After the first time it gets washed it "reverts" almost. I know that sounds absolutely ridiculous because relaxers cant revert, but my hair goes back to being as poofy as it was when I was stretching. There are other ladies I see on here who can stretch and wash and do whatever as much as they want without having to flatiron it (I think) and it still is straight. I've heard of the theories that I'm not leaving it on long enough or that my relaxer is too weak, but I have a super sensitive scalp and leaving it on for even 10 minutes is like hellfire, even with it based. I was told to wait 2 weeks after a relaxer to wash... TL;DR How do yall keep your relaxers fresh for weeks on end?

wow what a issue to have. That must suck :( My hair is pretty much straight for maybe..about 8 weeks. After that it's afro mode and I go into super stretch mode. I stretch my Relaxers very very far and it gets to a point in my stretch (it has to) where I don't care for it to be sleek or super straight all the time. The best thing I can tell you is check your products and what you're using. Could it possibly be something you're using, that's causing your hair to react this way. Hopefully you're blogging/journaling your hair journey and can go back and look and see what you used, when you used it and possibly pinpoint what the problem can be. If you have not been blogging, please go and start a blog. I use blogger.com and everytime I do anything to my hair, I make a post of what I did, what products I used and what effects they had on my hair. My blog is www.fromwacktomidback.blogspot.com. I hope this helps you.

I used to feel the same way-even avoiding the gym and stretching my wash dates to monthtly/biweekly to avoid "revision." However, once I started cowashig and learning how to properly airdry, I didn't notice any problem with keeping my hair "straight" till about 10+ weeks post relaxer.

I have this problem also. I learned that certain products make my hair look dry and unrelaxed so i stay away from these. Also right after each wash/cowash i airdry my hair with a silk scarf that way my hair drys straight.
