Leaving conditioner on the hair for too long

I posted awhile back about my scalp flaring up, after using products.

And I've realized now that it only happens when I use the products that insist you leave it on the hair under a dryer or whatever. (like DC)

My scalp doesn't like that, I"ve learnt that I have to put it on and then wash it out, which I guess is why co-washes work for me.

Does anybody else have this problem?

My scalp is usually ok but I have realized that when I rinse most conditioners out after only a few minutes and w/o heat my hair feels softer and more moist.

Only with certain conditioners. Usually, the longer I leave them in, the better they work. All of my Pantene masques are like that.

And that's the problem, I know that leaving them in longer, they work better in my hair...

But what's the use of the soft hair when my scalp is on fire.

It kinda sucks.

Actually, I've learned to shampoo only my roots and scalp and condition only my length and ends. Therefore, conditioner never touches my scalp. You might want to try it this way... I haven't had the scalp itchies in ages! :drunk:

I agree with you too!

I have personally gotten back to following instructions for protein conditioners with time limits on them. I suspect leaving them on too long is one of the reasons our can hair suddenly start shedding, get over moisturized, mushy, itching scalps, etc. or any other weird behavior that seems to come from "nowhere".

Leaving it in longer might work AT FIRST, but down the road it can lead to other problems it seems.

I will be trying this because I also have the scalp on fire syndrome after leaving conditioner on my hair for a longer time.

That's good a tip. I do this with my Nizoral shampoo because I know it is drying to my hair. I never thought about trying it with conditioner though. Thanks.

Yeah, some conditioners are just not meant to be left on long. I have many conditioners that I can leave on for extended periods but there are some that I know work better when rinsed after only a few minutes. :yep: We all know that conditioners can work differently on different hair. You just have to try to get to know yours.

No problem. I'm 99.99% sure this will work for you. It's amazing because as SOON as I started implementing this simple trick, my hair was never dry/stripped and my scalp was never itchy... go figure.

Other than overmoisturizing I don't have problem leaving conditioner on my hair, although my scalp is not wet when I'm under the dryer. I DC dry hair /w heat.

I used to have problems with my head itching as soon as it water touched it I used Keracare dry and itch poo and it stopped.

I can not leave conditioner on too long without it starting to itch. If I do, the itching lasts for days. So, I just leave on for 20-60minutes now.

Just curious: Are you all putting the conditioner on your scalp? I was under the impression that conditioner should be focused on the length of the hair and the ends, and that shampoo was for the scalp and roots...Just asking...If the conditioner is on the hair only and causing itchiness in the scalp, well, then that's just weird :look:.
