I have been using Just for Me (kiddie relaxer) for about 10 yrs now to lightly relax/texturize my hair, every couple months or so. The last couple times I've used it, though, have not performed the way that it used to (more drying than it has been over the years). I'm considering switching brands to texturize. I don't want to go to lye, since I do them myself, and with a hyper sensitive scalp, I'm not willing to risk burns and scalp damage.

I looked through old threads of success with no lye , and some of the brands I noticed were:

Soft & Beautiful Botanicals
Beautiful Beginnings
PCJ No lye
Gentle Treatment

Which of these would be the mildest? I keep my hair relatively wavy, so I don't need anything that will get it too straight.

I'm scared because I've used the same thing for so long, but it has 'changed' over time, and I think its time for something else. My last relaxer was early Jan, and I probably won't do another one until late March or sometime in April.

Thanks for you suggestions and help!

anyone?

I know Karonica uses No-Lye relaxers....maybe you can PM her and see what brand she uses. I just used Organic Root Stimulator's new no-lye relaxer on my sisters very fine hair and it turned out pretty good. I use lye on my own hair. Sorry, I couldn't be more helpful. Perhaps try using the search link at the top of the page and typing in "No-Lye Relaxer"

Good luck!

Revlon fabulaxer is really good. Thats the only relaxer I make my stylist use on me. You can get it at most beauty supply stores, CVS, walmart etc.

I never get scalp burns when I use the PCJ no-lye adult formula; if you leave it on for like 10 or 15mins then your hair will probably not become bone straight and you'll achieve some waves, HTH

If I relax at home, I'll use Pink Lotion's brand. I've tried the Profectiv one on my mother's hair, but it is extremely underprocessed. Also, I went to a different salon on Friday and they used a Bantu relaxer. I don't know if it's no-lye or what.

*bump*

My hair is FINALLY straight! Thanks to the Bantu relaxer. I washed it last Friday, a week after receiving a touch-up, and when I airdried, my hair stayed straight, no waves or curls or kinks. I was so happy!

Congratulations, Karonica!! By the way, did you ever find out if the Bantu relaxer was lye or no-lye?

I don't know.

The weird thing is, they didn't even base my head, but after searching just now on the web, Bantu has no-base relaxers, so I don't feel so bad anymore. Perhaps, that was the one she was using.

But I don't know if it has lye or what.
