Since I started my hair care journey last year, I haven't done a real trim. I do the search and destroy method so that I can retain my length. I bun my hair most of the time so that it's not brushing up against my clothing or getting caught on my purse strap, but I'm starting to wear it down a little bit more. I get crazy split ends so I'm constantly searching for them.

I trim (minor)/dust every three months. If there isn't a real need to trim I will do the search and detroy method.

My ends are protected every day unless I straighten then I will leave my hair down for a couple of days.

Well for me...I trim when I have met major goals...I got a trim when I was lil below SL...My next trim will be when I reach full BSB.....and so forth.:yep:

i haven't trimmed since i bc'd in may, 07.

i do wear alot of protective or low manipulation styles and guard the ends by keeping heat use down to a minimum and paying extra close attention to the ends when applying products or deep conditioning.

i inspect my ends about once a month and found maybe 8 single strand knots and less than 10 splits (there may be more hiding in the bush ) since the end of may.

It was once every 3 months..just a lite dusting..but when i was examining my ends (actually looking @ various strands 1 by 1) b/4 my last trim i decided that was too much trimming so i will now cut it down to 2x a year (just for maintaining).
I wear my hair in protective styles all the time..deep condition every week..henna...keep end moisturized daily.. that's why my hair is healthy and makes no sense to cut often.

I trim them whenever I feel like it sometimes that is every other week sometimes only once in a month.

I'm also getting into the lunar trimming of hair.

This is me. I joined LHCF in Oct of 2006 and haven't had a trim since about July 06. I don't feel it is necessary for me.

How often do you trim your ends? Every other touch-up, every 3 months and only to keep my ends blunt
Are you constantly protecting your ends? Yes, I baggy my ends, daily
How do you manage your split ends? I don't really get splits because my ends are constantly protected (baggied) 24/7. I seal with black castor oil and coconut oil or Profective Healthy Ends and bco. I want to say I don't get splits at all:perplexed but I'm going to be realistic for the ladies that say...yea right...<--THE LADIES:lachen:

ETA: So, I can it then...I don't get splits:blush:

I get a trim/dusting every 3 months, dont really have a problem with split ends. I do try to put moisturizer on my ends about every other day in the winter. Wear low maintenance styles also.

Usually every 3 months with my touchup. I don't really get splits anymore since I am lo maintenance. I also recently started back using Cathy Howse's UBH conditioner.

Usually every 3 - 4 months, when I think about it. My trims are more for keeping my ends neat than for ridding myself of splits. On a day-to-day basis, I wear my hair in a bun (at least while I'm trying to go from SL to APL).

I haven't had a trim since February '07. I do a search and destroy once in a while, whenever I feel like it.

I wear my hair down every day. I moisturize my ends twice a day, sleep with a silk scarf, wash with a sulfate-free moisturizing shampoo, and deep condition after every wash. I use a seamless comb to detangle my hair, otherwise I don't comb. I don't use a blow dryer, curling iron, or flat iron.

I haven't had a trim since July '06. i do feel like i need one but i wanna wait until my hair is past my shoulders first.

Voted once every 6 months

How often do you trim your ends? Maybe twice a year at the most
Are you constantly protecting your ends? Yes, I usually wear my hair in a bun 7 days a week
How do you manage your split ends? Dusk ends only when needed and keep hair moisturized

I don't trim anymore. I don't have spilt ends and I don't care about my ends being blunt so there's no reason to trim.

I wear protective styles most of the time.

When I think they need trimming. Maybe once, twice, three times a year. It depends now. I did the no trimming challenge for a year though. Saw some length, now I trim as needed.

I go on binges and was trimming between 6-8 weeks for the last year and half. I was transitioning so I was anxious to get rid of the relaxer. My last trim was the day I updated my fotki in February. I plan to go without trimming now for a while because it appears that I have no more relaxed hair

How often do you trim your ends? NEVER !!!
Are you constantly protecting your ends? YES!!!
How do you manage your split ends? I WEAR MY HAIR UP 95% of the time with my ends tucked it, don't use heat on ends, when I DC I really concentrate on my ends... I don't get split ends

How often do you trim your ends? I believe I have trimmed or dusted 2tx since Oct '06
Are you constantly protecting your ends? No, not really but I do wear a 1/2 wig almost daily as my protective style. I rarely wear my hair out. I am waiting until I reach my goal.
How do you manage your split ends? I don't. I don't use direct heat.

For the last 6-8 months, I have been somewhat laxed with my hair. I now wash once a week. In the beginning I washed 2tx a week. I don't moisturize and seal daily or baggy. I plan to get back on my grind though because I want to reach mid-back by next year.

How often do you trim your ends?
Approximately every 6 months.
Are you constantly protecting your ends?
Yes; I'm in buns almost all of the time.
How do you manage your split ends?[/quote]
Constant moisture keeps them at bay.

Hi everyone,
I'm new here. I've been lurking since I found the website about 2 weeks ago but I finally decided to subscribe because the topic hit really close to home.
Over the past year I havent really done anything with my hair. Just taking care of it the best way I knew how. Shampoo, Conditioner, leave-in, braid-out or blow-dry straight, no real protective styles although I did wear my hair up a lot. DC once every 2 or 3 months. I had my stylist flat-iron every 6 months ( I self-relax). Sometimes I flat-ironed myself. No trims, MAYBE a dusting. I mean, I wanted my hair long.
Last Friday (black friday) I discovered a large number of split ends. I mean, A LOT! Thinking, I MUST have been imagining it, the next morning, after pre-pooing w/ oil, shampooing, conditioning and applying leave-in they were still there!
BACKSTORY- About 5 years ago, I went to a new stylist with very damaged hair, he told me that most of it was dead and split ends. After 10 years trying to grow hair, in 5 minutes my hair went from below APL to my chin. Needless to say, it was traumatizing. And I didn't/don't ever want to go there again.
So, this time, in a pre-emptive strike, I took my trustee scissors and cut 2 to 3 inches. Now, I'm back to just below SL.
I guess, I kind of regret it because there's a small chance that I was imagining it but maybe I wasnt. At least I know that it wont take me nearly as long to grow it out now that I'm actively taking care of it and know what I'm doing.

How often do you trim your ends? Well...never again if I can get away with it. If not, dusting every 3-6 months (maybe).

Are you constantly protecting your ends?
Not as constantly as I could but I will. I'm trying out different updos. Right now, as boring as it is, the claw is winning.

How do you manage your split ends?
Moisturize and Protect, Moisterize and Protect, Moisterize and Protect

I haven't trimmed since my BC in may 09. I don't have split ends and don't pay any special attention to the ends

But when I had awful split ends I never trimmed either. I will get one if necessary but I haven't seen any need for it so far

I don't trim, I only do search and destroys. I rarely see a split end, and I don't wear my hair straight so I don't care about the ends being blunt. I examine my ends all the time and unless they look thin or damaged, I leave them be. I don't know why I would cut off perfectly good ends, my hair doesn't tangle at the end and I'm not having issues with breakage...a stylist told me that you should trim 1/4-1/2 of an inch every two months (on blown out hair) and I was just like ummm yea okay pass...if I cut 1/2 an inch every two months that's almost half my length for the year. Also, I'm pretty sure that blowing my hair out every two months would be more damaging to my hair than letting the ends sit there.
