My daughter will be 9 in 7 days. Here's what I do for her 4a hair:
WASH DAY:
- once a week in 6-8 braids shampoo with NTM shampoo
- 10 min with NTM daily conditioner
- unbraid each section and apply NTM Creamy Leave in
- rebraid section and apply evoo or jojoba oil to the ends
- air dry
DAILY CARE (she ususally wears 1-4 braids or braid out ponytails):
- apply Cantu Shea Butter Daily Moisturizer to hair (dime size to each section)
and re braid to the ends.
- apply non pulling elastics, soaked in evoo to ends to secure braid
- tie her hair down every night with a satin scarf
- in the morning if doing braid out ponytails I just undo the braids and fluff her hair a little.
Misc:
-ALWAYS use non pulling elastics or barrettes with no metal clip in the middle
-ALWAYS soak elastics in evoo to keep from damaging her ends (i keep them in a baby food jar and just pour the evoo over them and put the top back on).
-ALWAYS wash her hair once week no matter what our schedule is for that week.
-If she wants curls I use satin rollers, never a curling iron.
-Once a month I deep condition with cholesterol.
-All cornrows are done by me to protect her hairline.
I have a 13 year old. She has very thick, coarse hair. When she first went to middle school she was wearing ponytails and became self conscious. She started cornbraidingher hair which I told her not to do. It broke off to a little past her ears. I told her she better not put another cornbraid in her hair. I taught her how to take care of it and she does it hersefl except for washing it. This happed in June. It is now a couple inches past her shoulders.
I wash it twice a month and deep condition & blow dry. She does not have a relaxer and I won't allow her to get one until she is 16. She's finally come to terms with it,after seeing that most of her classmates who have relaxers and braids havelost their hair. She wears non elastic ponytail holders.
I use mango butter on her hair and pink lotion. For picture day I curl it the old fashion way. I tear pieces of brown paper bag and roll the ends of her hair on it. Comes out nice and curled in morning.
