So this is the second time I have cut my hair off totally and gone natural. After it's relaxed for about 6 months, it begins to shed and fall out. I've just realized that I have probably been overprocessing it. Why it took me so long to get this, I will never know. I'm bending over now so I can be kicked ever so hard. So instead of cutting it off again, I am going to try and save it. To everyone else it looks great but I know it's thin and unhealthy. Thanks to your help, I've decided to go AT LEAST 12 weeks before the next touch up, I have given myself an Aphogee treatment, I'm going back to the old school Queen Helene cholesterol, and I'm planning to wear a bun until my next relaxer. So here's my question:

1. What's a good shampoo and leave-in conditioner for damaged hair? Looks like Keracare is a favorite.
2. How many of you do your own relaxers? At this point, I feel like I can take care of my hair better than anyone else. Comments? Suggestions?
3. I want to wash my hair twice a week just so it can be deep conditioned more often? Do you think this is necessary or would I be better off leaving it be (less manipulation) until my weekly wash?

Thanks for all of the great info!

Sorry to hear about your woes. Now that you know what the culprit was, you're ready to turn things around. My answers:

1. Nexxus was my lifesaver when I began my healthy hair journey. My issues was DRY hair, and shampoo/DCing every week along with TLC through the week really turned my hair around.

2. I can't really speak on this because I haven't relaxed in over a year, but I think it's possible to have success with self-relaxing as evidenced by folks by Sareca, Isis, and others. I will say that I'm a firm believer that nobody can take care of your hair better than you can in terms of babying it so I would definitely consider self-relaxing because no matter what, you have control.

3. I only wash once/week but many ladies do it more often with great success (Isis comes to mind). I would say DCing twice/week would probably be great for your hair while you're nursing it back to health, but instead of shampooing twice a week, I'd no poo one of those washes to avoid stripping moisture. Other than that, I think it would definitely help reduce dryness and breakage.

Good luck chica!
