I'm at crisis point right now. I did my relaxer on Monday after 16 weeks, 2 days. Yeah!!!! I used Profectiv Regular and felt good about the doing my own relaxer. Until I took my hair out of my air dried bun. THE MIDDLE OF MY HEAD STILL HAS ALMOST TWO INCHES OF NEW GROWTH. Especially the right side. Like I didn't even touch it. I think the problem was fear of overprocessing. This from the woman who used to leave the relaxer in more than 20 minutes not so long ago. Stop yelling at me ya'll, this is pre-enlightment. :D  What to do??????

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!! I can barely comb through it and I'm afraid to leave it like this. I am very afraid of the return of the evil breakage monster.

Any help ya'll can pass on would be appreciated. I ran a search on previous postings but anyone's past experience would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

First calm down, second stop beating your self up, we have all make some type of mistake with out hair. Third seriously you should ask a beautician about what is the best method to fix the problem. Most of the time a regular will not straighten hair that is thick. My only suggestion would be to either straighten the sections with a hot come that the perm did not straighten, or get a blow out. If all else fails then were your hair in a protective bun, moisturize and condition your hair, then wait until your next perm touch up.

I hope this helps.

Are you sure it's new growth? I ask only because you said you air-dried your hair in a bun and only the middle looks this way. It could be your drying method, since the middle hair was not pulled back as tightly and smoothly as the rest. See what happens when you shampoo and dry again, using a different drying method such as a rollerset. If you decide to straighten that area with heat, I recommend a flat iron instead of a hot comb.

Balisi,

I thought so too but the curl pattern is still there, FOR REAL and I can barely comb it in the shower. The left side is way better than the right. But I will try your idea next time I CO wash to see what happens. Will keep ya posted.

I agree with Miz Complexity. This also happen to me (underprocess) when I decided to switch relaxers. The above plus co washes w a good detangling conditioner, if you do decide to airdry into a protective style, may be helpful to you until the next time you relax. Hope this helps.

Thanks to all who posted. I've cowashed twice since the incident and found that while the right side is under processed I can manage for right now. I used some Profectiv Mega Growth last night and sectioned off 4 sections. I twisted the ends up with the last twist of the scruncie, tied with a scarf and went to bed. This morning lovely waves!! I'm gonna try to wait it out as long as possible but I doubt I can make it past 6 weeks. Who knows though, stranger things have been known!

Your hair is basically underprocessed. This is the problem I'm having now so I'm switching from no lye to lye.
