I'm here in MA and the temp is -2. I refuse to wear my hair out in this weather. On work days I moisturize my hair before I leave, wrap it, cover with a silk scarf and hat. I unwrap it once I get to work. On the weekends I wrap it and leave it covered with a silk scarf and hat. I'm married and my husband loves my collection of baby phat hats so I just wear a hat or a pretty scarf to my son's basketball games. Not looking to impress anyone so I just keep my hair under my hat unless I am going to church. For God I brave the cold and make the mad dash from the car to the church. When the temp gets a little warmer I'll wear my hair out more often.
I'm in NJ. -2 F to about 30 F over the past few weeks...
I've been doing nightly conditioner washes, throwing my hair in a bun, wrapping with a satin cap. Then in the morning I unwrap and go. My hair is a bit wet but on the "inside" the outter layers are dry and moist.
It is not as cold over in London, we can get a lot of cold snaps. Yesterday, the wind was almost gale force also there is the chill factor, so even though it may be 5 F, the chill factor of -1 F. Anyway, I still rinse, every morning and evening and I keep my hair covered at all times. I wear a beret with a satin lining and covered my head with a hood.
Didn't do the braids, but I have my hair tucked away in 2 fat cornrows (with the help of kanekalon hair for added bulk) with the plaits in the back formed into a huge bun.
