Hey ladies, i haven't been able to be on LHCF much in the past few weeks with the holidays, and then with this move to San Diego and all (military), however, I finally took out my sew in (8 1/2 weeks), and my hair was coming out bad . This didn't happen with the first sew-in (only in 5 weeks).

NOW, here is the thing, I think I already know for sure what it is..... MOISTURE OVER LOAD. But then too, it can be a combination of shedding from being in the weave for so long. UGH, which ever it is, I am soooooooo scared to detangle and wash .

So, what should i do first? I know I will need a heavy protein treatment after i clarify, but is there anyway to prevent more hair from coming out prior to doing the protein treatment????

I took it out last night, and right now, its wrapped up in a satin cap with a wig on. I am sooo scared of what the results may be after I wash. Please ladies, i need replies ASAP.... Esp. Y'all that wear weaves!!

You are fine...

I would suggest you properly detangle tonite and braid it up. (To let it dry out so to say)

Wash and condition tomorrow and just dc really well. I think you will be quite surprised with how much hair you still have on your head.

Just be gentle detangling... I recommend African Royale BRX spray, it will melt those tangles right on out.:drunk:

actually i wouldnt do a heavy protein just yet. try washing with a protein shampoo like aphogee and then deep condition with heat with ORS replenishing pak. that conditioner detaingles weel too so detaingling shouldnt be an issue. if you have coconut oil or an oil mixed with cinaman(sp?) massage your scalp with that incase you have alot of shedding from the scalp.

I agree with Chebaby. Don't do an all out protein condish just yet. Breakage is usually a sign of dryness or protein overload. Overloads on moisture are usually mushy stretchy hair. Not a lot of breakage. So do a light protein wash and DC with a nice moisture product. You'll be ok, don't cry lil' sista'!
ETA~ Also, are you sure it's not just the shedding of old hair. You know hair sheds EVERYDAY whether you comb it or not. When you take braids or weaves down you usually get a lot of that. I know you said you've done this before but maybe you were in your shed cycle at the same time too. GOOD LUCK!

I am pretty certain that its a moisture overload. My hair feels mushy and stretchy. and while I've been in the weave, I've done a lot of moisturizing and probably not enough protein, although I've DC'd with the ORS 4 times.

Look at the ends of the hair, if there's a white bulb then it's just shed hair. Which is normal because you shed hair every single day so you should have 2 months worth. I remember when I used to get braids for 3 months and I'd take them out and have all this hair come out as well...but my hair was just as thick afterwards. It's no big deal.

Make sure to detangle fully (get all the product build up and shed hair) before any water hits your hair or else you will end up with matted and tangled hair.

Do you see breakage? If not then don't cry you'll be just fine. It's just normal shedding combined with moisture overload that you mentioned.

Hair is very resilient and you just have to give it some TLC and it will bounce back. I'd only be worried if you see bald spots, major breakage or if your scalp is irritated.

The protein sounds like a good idea but you have to decide whether to do it immediately or wait a day or two.

Are you sure it is not previously shedded hair that has already shedded out and just could not fall out and escape?? The question is do you have bald spots?

I don't see bald spots... at least not yet. Im still scared to comb my hair. But I don't think I should see any bald spots. Its like whenever I touch my hair, a whole lot comes out. Maybe I can do a garlic treatment and wait a day, then do the rest.

I used to shed really bad after I took my sew in down too. I just washed and dc really good then I very carefully detangled and it wasn't as bad as I thought. I think you are used to less becuase you have never kept it in that long. Like some of the pp said, you will be surprised how much hair you have left. I think its alot of hair that should have shed. Go ahead with the protein, I think it should be fine.
