Hair Paranoia, Hair Anorexia or Hair Envy?

or any other Mental Hair Condition or issues?

What are your symptoms and what (if any thing) helped you to get cured?

Do you know of any other sufferers and their symptoms?

please do share!

Hair Anorexia Symptoms: Might include but are not exclusive to. Hearing people tell you your hair is lovely beautiful etc. But you almost never feel it is. Because Your inner mental image of what YOU desire it to be is something totally different than what it is. This can be fine if 'your inner mental image' is actually achievable and reasonable for your hair, If not you are subjected to life time and of NEVER being happy with your hair.

I suffered from this and got cured. One being that my 'inner mental image' was eventually achievable. Two being , I got sick and lost over half of my hair and learned then to be happy with what I had

So one known cure for Hair Anorexia is loss of your hair or a major set back to then develop appreciation and the ability to see your hair for what it really is, when you finally get it back again

Hair Paranoia: Symptoms might include but are not exclusive to. You wont go to any hair dressers or let anyone trim or cut your hair , you think most people will cut it off on purpose (this might a reasonable rationale in some instances haha) you are afraid to turn your back while out in public as you think many women suffer from horrible 'hair envy' and will thus take a match to the back of your hair and run. You might have nightmares of horrific hair trauma's that wake you up in tears or sweating.

There is no known cure for this one!

lol

I think I suffer from hair paranoia.

Before LHCF, I was the chick who you'd always see rockin her faithful wrap.
Now, I can't even wear my hair down. I'm paranoid about how many hairs are rubbing against my shirt and breaking. Ain't that stupid! :spinning: I always thought some of the ladies were crazy from having such long pretty hair and not enjoying it by wearing it down, not even for a day. Now I see why....

Also, I'm paranoid about using heat. I've been spoiled on how much thicker and full my hair is when I air dry it. I know my hair is healthy enough to use heat regularly, but I just can't do it :nono:

Hair envy: Is an interesting condition as not many will admit to having it. But one who has to be subject to the hair envy of another knows that that person is in fact suffering from hair envy. Symptoms include but are not exclusive to, you hate to see anyone happy with their hair. You may or may not be happy with your hair. If you are in fact happy with your own hair you simply dont want to see another woman with such joy , if you are not happy with your hair you simply do not want to see another woman happy with what you do not possess. There is a degree of aggravation and anger to your symptoms. Hair envy is not as simple as 'wishing your hair was something else' its involves a trait of hate or anger that another is happy with their hair period whether you are or are not happy with yours. It is not as simple as 'liking someone's hair' it is disliking it because they like it

Many try to cure, or curb the symptoms of the sufferers of 'hair envy' in the case of the sufferer that is not happy with their hair, by sharing their own hair knowledge , and struggles and set backs to help her to not feel that way anymore, some 'Hair Envy Sufferer's' will look within and some will not!

In the case of 'hair envy' where the sufferer is happy with their hair but just does not want you to be....THERE IS NO CURE! I REPEAT THERE IS NO CURE! Do not waste a moment on trying!

Only that person can cure themselves by not being so hateful selfish and superficial

**The message*** Life is too short for us to be either defined or bound by the hair on our heads or the hair on another's head!!!!

Thats the real cure!

Good Post!

I can say at times I feel a little hair paranoia. I like to keep my ends up and tucked, but I do enjoy wearing my hair down, as long as it won't be rubbing on wool. I have a few silk blouses that I prefer to wear my hair down with this winter. I also have this thing about not being too rough with my hair.

I feel the hair anorexia when I have a lot of new growth and my hair starts to get dry. I get a lot more concerned with causing breakage when detangling. Luckily it goes away when I get a touchup, when I can clearly see that everything is all right.

I don't suffer from envy period, but I do sense it a lot in people, which is sad. I agree that with some no amount of positivity will help them unless they decide to change for themself and focus on taking care of their own hair.

btw

damn i love your shine! blind me why dontcha?

so umm how did you get that shine anyway?

I suffer from splitendphobia.

I will CHOP my hair to death just so that I am confident my ends are immaculate. I cut ALL my growth off from 2007 with gradual cuts over the year :perplexed I cut from half and inch to 1.5 inches about 5 or six times last year.

I'm slowly being cured of this though. I will definitely try to trim less and realize that there isn't anyone in the world with no splits and litterally perfect hair.

I feel so dumb

I suffer from hair anorexia slightly. Everyone is telling me how long my hair is getting and I don't see it! my fotki proves that it is indeed growing and getting longer but it just doesn't look long in my eyes. LOL. I hope this feeling will go away once I reach BSL. We'll see!

Me too...I'm stuck in the "it's getting there" mode. I don't know when it will officially be long....when I get to MBL???:spinning:

Be encouraged! I had this mole on my back when I first went natural and I just about checked it every day to see if it had reached it , it finally did and I still wasnt happy, but it did finally grow past that mole .....way past it!

you can grow to bra strap and beyond!

we just had a talk recently , she thought i had some secret to no spilt ends! NOT!

You have to decide when your happy with your hair and I SAY THE TIME IS NOW!!!

btw your hair is beautiful. PLEASE BELIEVE IT! and its LONG too

*the rest of this is just my babbling not directed at the poster*
I have suffered from all of this so umm I dont come from any stand point of not knowing what its like

when I was young my sister had thick long healthy relaxed hair and mine kept breaking and breaking and breaking and so did my heart, hell yeah I had hair envy especially when she would purposely show that 'ish' off in front of me!

I suffer from hair paranoia now. About 2 months ago, two black girls were behind me on the escalator at the mall.
I over heard one saying to the other that she's going to start walking with scissors and start cutting some women's hair cause sometimes it's just too long.

I turned around and gave them the nastiest look I could muster. So yeah, now I'm paranoid!
