Hello Lovelies:

I've been about that "natural" life for about 4 or 5 years. I have gotten better but still not great at styling. I try to work out several times a week (try being the operative term:lachen:I mostly think about it). I have had episodes when my hair was still damp and my attempt at a style was ruined. I've been out in the humidity or mist and all of my hard work went down the drain. I think that I'm a high porosity natural too so that just adds to the challenge. I just want to loosen my coils, keep the frizz at bay and make my hair more manageable. I went to a stylist for a consultation to get texlaxed or a texturizer. She did not recommend one for me. I didn't really want the permanency of relaxer anyway. She recommended a BKT by La Textura. I'm wondering what you LHCF professionals have to say? Any recent experiences, comments, suggestions, criticisms? Shout out to dicapr and biancaelyse. Thanks in advance:yep:

I kept it up for a few months. My hair texture after the treatment was basically the same just less frizzy. I continued to wear my hair "natural" but with less shrinkage and frizz. The initial flatiron would last about a week which is a big deal to me because my hair reverts easily-I didn't work out but it was during the summer. I stopped getting the treatment because my hair started having issues retaining moisture and I loss some volume. I can't really say my hair was damaged because once the treatment fully wore off it returned to normal. It is still something I would-do every once in a while, just not on a every 3 months schedule like I was doing before.

I would not recommend any products like BKT or texturisers. Frizzy hair does not respond well to these products.

Your hair is highly porous meaning that your hair dries quickly and doesn't absorb moisture. I think you need to figure out the state of your hair before you became natural and revisit your products.

If you want to do something to lightly alter the texture without spoiling it, I would have it coloured dark brown or off black by a professional. It won't give you curls or it may bring them out a bit but it will soften your hair a bit.

I also was natural for five years, but my natural hair was the opposite it took forever to dry. I had lots of SSKs. I thought the solution was a relaxer but that killed my hair. And I even coloured in mildly when I was natural but because my own hair was so dry the ends got messed up. And I have fine hair.

I ended up now shaving my hair to start from fresh. I know many women are adverse to doing that. And there are days when I think what did I just do to my hair but it helped me to have new hair and also know my hair better and my hair is now normal porosity. But I find many women who did a long term transition wished they had shaved it or cut it very short to start.

Best,
Almond Eyes
