As a PJ, I have learned that different conditioners will work differently on different heads of hair.
I've learned that the same conditioner can work differently on different heads of hair AND
The same conditioner can be different on the same head of hair (this is what we call inconsistent results)
Some conditioners will give you the same results over and over and over...again no matter what, but for those that don't, I've kind of discovered the different factors (or a combination of these) that can cause different results

*product(s) that you used before the conditioner (type of shampoo, no shampoo, pre-shampoo, clarifying, etc.)
*how wet your hair is when you apply the conditioner
example: I must leave my hair substantially wet when using Kenra MC or I won't get any slip
*how long you leave the conditioner in
example: can't leave DB moisture in for too long or results are less than favorable
*whether or not you use heat with the conditioner, or a plastic cap
example: DB reconstructor performs much better on me without heat even though the directions say it can be used with heat as an option
*how much of the conditioner you use
example: doesn't take much DB at all, in fact the results are not good when I use alot. This might answer why you don't get much of it

*whether or not you comb the conditioner through (some conditioners do great with this, others don't)

Hope this helps someone. Can you think of any other factors that affect how well your conditioner works?

This probably goes under the "product" heading already cited above:
What you add to the conditioner, (e.g. EVOO, honey, molasses, coconut oil/milk, MSM,) can affect how well the conditioner performs. Some conditioners that I've used like the cholestrol conditioners didn't do anything for my hair and were about to get tossed when someone recommended that I add a little honey or oil. Suddenly I had a good moisturizing condiditioner.

How straight or curly your hair is, whether it is relaxed or natural, and if relaxed, how much of the curl is left.

--With natural/organic products, sometimes the product consistency changes from bottle to bottle or batch (i have experienced this with GPB).

--Depending where you purchase, you may be getting knock-off or expired products that will not perform properly.

--Sometimes the company changes the formula, and you truly don't have the same conditioner anymore.

* As a natural sista with THICK hair, I've found that ONLY creamy-type conditioners work on my hair

* I've found that "leave-in for 5 minutes" just won't do. For this head it is more like leave in for 20 - 35 minutes and THEN comb through while conditioner is in the hair. Otherwise, it's as though I didn't use any conditioner at all.

i know this may sound stupid but i left my cap off of my conditioner in the shower for like two days and it didnt work the same when i used it again.

I also think the ingredients in a conditioner are key to find out what works best for your hair. I like conditioners that have cones ,ceateryl alchol (sp), glycerin as the top 5 ingredients . Also panthenol (sp) and aloe vera.
The consistency my hair likes is medium to thick creamy type, like pantene smooth and sleek, dove, garnier fructis., motions moisture plus.

I want to thank SG so much for ALL her hair advice (Miss Lady, you are always on point). She is a sweetheart!
