I'm not interested in going bone straight. I'd like to know, among those of you who've tried a number of relaxers, which you found to be the mildest and least damaging to your hair and scalp?

Phyto?

Silk Elements?

ORS Olive Oil?

Other?

From what I have tried I would recommend Design Essentials and silk elements mild. I had the least discomfort with these two as well as Mizani regular. From what I have read from the board here, Phyto has treated scalps well and many have little discomfort with Ors olive oil. It really depends on if you want lye or no lye. Then you can narrow it down. Elucence has a good rep too. I want to try this relaxer eventually.

Silk elements has mixed feelings reight now on the board. Many say it worked great but two to three weeks later feel differently. I personally have had no problem with it. It does process quickly though so I would recommend the mild one.

Phyto and ORS. I have never had a problem with those, even when I scratched my scalp before using it.

i just texturized with Elucence normal after 7 years natural. i had absolutely NO scalp irritation or burning. my hair feels very moisturized and healthy. when i used to be fully relaxed years ago, i remember how my hair would be sort of "stuck" to my scalp after a retouch and just feel sort of dead. but i didn't get that at all with Elucence.

I'm mixed when it comes to Phyto. I was loving it when I first started out about two years ago (started with Index 2 then went to Index 1 after the first try). I find it makes my hair super straight (which I love) and soft. It seems to be very gentle - no burning ever. But lately I feel as though my hair is thinning??? I could be relaxing too much (I used to relax twice a year and have been doing every 3 months now). Also, the last time I went to the salon my stylist noticed breakage. I kinda think it's the way my touch up was done the previous month (not washed out enough and possibly overlapped). I don't know. I think I will just give it a rest for now and wait 6 months before my next touch up because I really do like Phtyto.

Sorry to rant!!! I'm looking for the same answers OP!!!

For me, Profectiv (the normal one w/o the color).

I was impressed at how straight but strong my hair felt after using it. It may be because it has protein in the relaxer cream.

Wow! Well I hope it wasn't the Phyto. I will keep a close eye on my own hair. It's already thin, and I don't need it to get thinner.
