For my last two washes I'd been experiencing a lot of tangling in my hair. I'd also noticed a little more breakage than usual but nothing serious really (however, I wanted to stop it before it became serious).

I don't know what happened. I used the same products I always use but I had started doing 'oil rinses' with those last two washes. I even pre-pooed with oil...LOL and I used Castor but I think the culprit was that I accidentally used too much.:lachen: The first time my hair was very soft after my rollerset but 'oily' and tangly..even though I rinsed it very well. It didn't bother me because I wore it up anyway and it worked in the bun and updo styles. The second wash--this past Saturday..I washed--clarified first and then went on with my regular routine. My hair came out very dry even after my DC..it was soft and moisturized while I was rolling it and when I took it down but the day after it was so dry!!!

So this morning I just had to wash again. I could not take the dryness. I decided to keep it simple. Just regular old wash with shampoo (I used CON--one of my staples..don't tell Aveda...LOL) and I DCed with Elucence MB (Nothing different, I switch up DC's..Terax Crema, Elucence). No extra steps--no pre poo--no oil rinse--nadda.

And my hair is soft and back to 'normal' again! I just keep touching it. I guess sometimes it's best to just keep it simple. I will still pre-poo but not sure about oil rinses (perhaps I need to use a different oil). NO breaks at all when I combed it while wet today! I'll put pictures in my Fotki later if I get a chance. I'm having a busy day today.

Same here. I was experiencing breakage too... I did a simple poo/deep condition and put a smidgen of leave-in , seal the ends as I roller set... and my hair turned out nice and no breakage... I have been killing my hair with PO(product overload)... I was a POJ(Product Overload Junkie)... I have seen the Light... LESS IS BETTER... Glad you hair is responding... The ladies here at this forum made me see the light, when I told them my regimen... They said my hair was suffering from PO... I will keep it simple from now on...

Girl, same here :yep:

Lately, I've been relaxing straight (no texlax/texturizing), washing w/ shampoo/conditioner, and pulling back in a bun.

I was doing daily air-dried rollersets...:look:...but I'll have to reserve those for special occasions. :grinwink:

If it ain't broke don't fix it, it's really easy to get sucked in PJisms. :nono:

Yep, simple is the key. I have seen the light too. I did also use my leave in and sealed with a little bit and I mean VERY LITTLE BIT of castor oil. It came out great. I'm so happy my hair responded.

Thanks to the ladies who responded. This site it wonderful. If it were not for this board I would have just kept on going with the breakage and all and just gone to get a cut eventually....LOL. That's what I always used to do (before I was interested in growing my hair). It could tangle, break or whatever..I didn't care because I kept a short cut and went to the stylist all the time:nono:. For shame! .....LOL Now I pay close attention to my hair and it's reactions and I start working on it as soon as I see a problem. 'When I knew better...I did better' to quote Mya Angelou...

Yep, yep and yep to KISS. Sometimes I just shake my head :nono: when I see what folks are doing and then wondering why there's a problem. But I do recognize that you gotta get out there and experiment before coming home . . .

Simple and consistency is the the key to life. One it gives the products a chance to do its job and second the hair does not have constantly go into shock with new stuff which can cause breakage and just right out hair confusion.

I've seen the light too:rolleyes: and I agree with keeping it simple. I've learned the hard way (hand full of hair after gliding through my hair) my hair does not like too many products,:nono: just the basics.

Also as well as keeping it simple - Using less product can help as well.

I used to coat my strands with half a tub of conditioner - Now I use just a little, and put on a shower cap. Hair come out even better.

Yep, I keep it simple too. I am a shampoo, DC, and leave-in girl myself. I may switch up the order or mix products together...but thats about as fancy as it gets.
I get good results and my hair is happy.

All that pre-pooing, oil rinsing, hennaing, and whatever other ing....I dont really get into. My hair is happy and I am lazy...so thats 2 for 2 in my book.

Im a member of the K.I.S.S club too.
I pre poo, wash, condition...That's it :yep:
I use a very small amount of product too...it gives better results & saves me $$$$ beacuse my products last longer.
