ok i almost had to cut somebody. when i first come to the reception desk the lady had an attitude. then i was like ok not gonna let that get me down. so i got in the young ladys chair. and advised i was relaxer free. i felt ok because she said well at least that way you know your hair isn't damaged. (natural hair can be damaged but ok)so she gets out the flat iron and a pressing comb. then she pulled out some grease. omg i didn't say anything. then she proceeded to fry my hair. of course i spoke up but i did try to see if it looked ok with the grease. well it didnt look good the press was cool but it was stiff and had no movement. then i smelled some foul smell and my hair was chillin on the hot comb. i was like is my hair comming out. she said no its only the dead hair. ok now all hair is dead hair and thats not what i asked. she fryed my hair like chicken and burned out a spot. not to mention that she was using a fine tooth pressing comb. so she got a teacher. and i am giving the short version. why did he try to tell me well you are supposed to loose a certian amount of hair per day, maybe you are on medication or maybe you are stressed "Nothing that we are doing is making your hair come out."so i said i wasn't on meds that make my hair come out and i wasnt stressed. so he says well if your hair is comming out you are stressed.

i explained that i washed my hair several times per week and detangled so i know what normal loss was for me. he had the nerve to look at my hair and say you did what to this hair. this hair oh heck no he had a tone. this hair. then he told me my hair was matted. how is a picked out fro matted. he is lucky i didnt tell him about all the sugar in his tank. so anyway needless to say she stopped doing my hair and i got a refund. i couldnt get home quick enough to put motions oil moisturizing protien conditioner in my hair. i'm about to press my hair on my own minus the grease. how bout the section that she fried is not drawing back up like it usually does when it is wet. maybe after a few washings it will. oh i forgot how come another student tried to "help" by telling me i was loosing hair because i let my hair air dry. then she asked if i combed my hair. i advised i combed with conditioner, and combed again without conditiner once it was rinsed out. if i hear one more persons say that oh it's just dead hair excuse i might get violent. ok i wont get violent but you guys know what i mean. then i advised they needed a wider tooth pressing comb. you cant use a fine tooth comb on my hair i only use the fine tooth comb on the kitchen. wow, he even had the nerve to have an attitude when he gave me my cash back.

Well, golly! I thought I had a bad experience when I had gotten my hair flat ironed at a beauty school 3 years ago! The girl doing told me she smoked weed and she burned me a few times with the flat iron. What are they teaching these students? I think next time (if there is one!) you should bring your own products. I hope your hair is okay.

what they are teaching them is the same bs that is going on in many (not all)salons. he had an attitude and he was the teacher so what was that teaching the students. i'm sure they talked about me when i left but so what, I still have most of my hair.
I conditoned my hair then applied some Aura Elixir leave in and blowdried my hair is nice and light full of body.I am about to press it then i will feel better.

good luck Ms P!!

ETA: guess im a bit late!! dang girl!!! so, who got stabbed??? i would go for the teacher, cuz he's teaching them to suck!!:)

I stopped going to the beauty college years ago. I was in 7th grade I believe and one of the girls at the beauty college proceeded to give me a relaxer. She obviously didn’t know what she was doing because she shampooed and conditioned my hair first and then globed some relaxer and spread it all over my head (didn’t even take the time to part my hair)
nono.gif
. She did everything out of order and I had to stop her and tell the instructor in charge (as well as my mother). They let someone else work on my hair and I’ve never gotten my hair done there again. As for your experience, they're obviously not teaching their students how to 1st take of AA hair and then how to style it. Why would you put grease on someone’s hair knowing that you will be sliding a pressing comb through it? Greasy Substance + Hot Comb = Serious Damage! As far as the attitude's go, my father sounds just like that students you described. He comments on my hair every time he sees me because I stopped relaxing it and he says my hair looks “unpresentable” and that I need to relax it. Please, my hair has never looked healthier!
smile.gif
A relaxer is not for everyone. When you commented about them telling you not to let your hair air dry, I’ve heard that same thing. I told a friend of mines that I let my hair air dry and she told me “No! You NEVER let your hair air dry, you’re immediately supposed to put heat on it”
naughty.gif
. Let’s just say her hair hasn’t grown in a while because she puts a blow dryer, pressing comb, flat iron, and salon type hot curlers on it weekly
nono.gif
. Anyways, I’m sorry that your hair was fried, but since you are equipped with the knowledge of how to properly care for your hair it will be back to it’s old self in no time.

P.S.> When you press your own hair don’t forget to post pics!

shatani:for now i haven't cut anyone{might need to trim these ends though :-)}
lovely: the just werent ready for AA hair in its natural state i should have known when i took off my scarf & the funny looks started!

Good gravy! It's no wonder these stupid stylists don't know what they're doing! They aren't even being taught right at school.

ITA,its hard to even find actual stylists who know how to work with natural hair....students? thats just scary! Ive had someone at a beauty school jack up my hair before too and Im relaxed! I dont even know if I would let them give me a wash and set...thats hard to screw up but Im sure they could find a way!

my aunt (who is a brilliant stylist!) actually went to beauty school so she could get licensed and try to start a shop...why did she end up having to teach these people who were supposed to be teacher her??? she said, they spent like 3 days on how to do black people's hair and they were mostly wrong in what they said...the rest of the time was spent teaching them how to make dull, limp white hair look less dull and limp....now THATS a shame...

Whew, that was a close one, I'm glad you and Tresses escaped unharmed.
smile.gif

I also had a bad experience with a beauty school. They put velcro rollers in my hair and put me under the dryer. It looked like I had been in a gang fight with a Wilderbeast and a couple of Bob Cats.
laugh.gif

Needless to say, the owner/instructor had to stay late and finish my hair. It still wasn't right. I will only go if I'm recommended to a particular person.

I'm so sorry about your experience.

Just give Tresses some TLC and she will be back to normal.

Oh yeah, you may want to visit the I'm so so sorry thread.

i'm just upset that instead of saying hey i got the comb too hot i'll be more careful she was like oh its just dead hair.

actually my hair looks good. now the spot she burned is almost in the center of the very back so its concealed but still.
shocked.gif

They probably don't even know what a wash and set is!

Oh no!!! That school should be ashamed for such poor work. I'm glad you got out of there with all of your lovely hair though- can't wait to see how your press turned out.
