Hi, I'm new here. I have type 4 shoulder length hair. So far in good condition, but a little dry. Looking forward to getting some good tips and hope that I can share some also.

Welcome aboard, Akua!

Please share your regimen (the products you use, how you wear your hair, if you use heat at all, and if you're taking supplements) so that we can see if there is something you could add or change to help with the dryness.

Thanks!
Right now I use:
Motions lavish shampoo
cpr conditioner w/heating cap for 20 min
just started to use cathy howse's lotion moisturizer(which i like) also the dew.
i use the curling iron no more than twice/week
i also use biosilk fruitcocktail reconstructor
for a deep conditioner i'll use nexxus emergency
i wear my hear down and after about the fourth week of my retouch, i'll wear a french braid down the middle.
and yes i'm taking supplements.

you might want to find a way to decrease the amount of heat that you use. i also used the curling iron twice a week, and my hair stayed the same length for MANY years despite the fact that i took good care of it.

just something to consider...

Welcome Akua ... I agree with Adrienne on the curling iron issue. I was using it once a week to straighten after my hair airdried , but avoiding the heat, has been working wonders for me.

Have fun on the forum. There's a lot good information on here!!!!!

thank you singingstar12,
and thanks for the tip adrienne0914. I will cut down on the curling iron. Do you think leaving the protein conditioner on too long under the heating cap could contribute to the dryness also?
thanks again.

thanks for the welcome everyone!
I will cut down to just once a week on the curlingiron and see if that will help. I also airdry my hair. When I do curl it I use very low heat.
thanks again

I think using a protein conditioner (often) and not following it with a good moisturizing conditioner can make the hair feel dry and brittle too. And I'm with the rest on the heat thing. Have you tried Adrienne's bun/pony idea. While you're there, take a look at her album and see the strides she's made since giving up heat.

thanks for the tip nonie! I dont often use a moisturizer after the protein conditioner, now I know why. Adrienne's

hair is beautiful. I will definitely lay off the heat.
thanks again.
