The sayings goes:
knowledge is power
Ignorance is bliss

Often times when I see women with long hair and I ask them how they acheive it they say something totally contrary to what I've learned on LHCF. Or they will say, they don't do anything maybe wash it every 2-3 months and that's it. They wear it down and use heat daily yet they have long hair.

In my randomness I was just thinking maybe I know too much.

What are your random thoughts on hair?

I may have to agree with you a little. You know the saying...."less is more". My sister doesn't do anything to her hair but yet she has lovely shoulder length hair. Me on the other hand, I've had long hair before but due to trauma, it's short but recovering. After 7 months, I've had some improvement with length but I think I do too much which may be inhibiting its growth potential. I think if I just wash every two weeks instead of weekly like I did as a kid and stick to minimal manipulation, it will probably grow faster than me washing weekly. I've had information overload from this site and I know what to do but yet and still I still have  (imo) hair. It's probably time to go back to what I did in the past......virtually nothing. (but my edges are back...praise the Lord)

I don't think I know to much and I don't think women who said they've always did nothing are telling the absolute truth. I have a friend who has bsl hair that she wears down and heat styles daily. She also highlights and does her touch ups once a month. While her hair is long and very pretty, I've never actually seen her hair grow past bsl, so I just couldn't follow her regimen.

I soo agree. When I visted a friend in L.A, her roomate had long thick hair.I asked what she does and she said, moisturize daily but she puts heat on it almost daily. She says she goes and gets it washed everyother week too. Well, we went to the shop with her so my friend could get her ends trimmed(thank god) and the lady who does her hair put like two conditioners on it. From the looks of it she gets a mild protien treatment as well as a moisturizing one every other week. So even if they say "I just go get it washed every/every other week at so in so" there is not telling what that person does to her hair.

i don't think that's true. the more you know the more you know what to avoid. my best friend's hair used to be short but she grew it out. when i ask her how did she do it. she told me to buy expensive products and go to the salon every 2 weeks. now her hair is breaking and she thinks she can fix that. i doubt it cause if she knew what to do why would she let it get in such a bad condition in the first place. it's heavily highlighted and it looks like straw basically. my hair of course looks so much healthier than her almost APL hair. so she's gonna cut it earlength and start over. something tells me the same thing is gonna happen again. oh and she doesn't take my hair advice so we'll see...

I recall being asked about my hair when I used to wear it relaxed and loose. I would always share my hair practices, but the routine was so simple, I don't think those women believed me. I didn't do anything special, but I did shampoo weekly and deep condition once a month. When I shared that, they would get a doubtful look on their face and be on their way. So it's not all the time that long haired/healthy haired women are withholding any information. It's not much different than what some of us LHCFers experience when we share our routines with women outside the forum. Even as a natural head, my hair information gets dismissed with "Oh, you have that kind of hair that allows you to do that." These people miss the big picture. They're not ready.

Ignorance is expensive!

So I'm happy for all that I've learned about hair. There was a time when I think I was obsessing over my hair but that was because I woke up one morning and a big chunk of it was gone! So I was doing any and everything to make the peach fuzz grow back...FAST!

But after all of it, I've settled into a simple routine that works for me, because if it's not simple, I'm not going to do it for the long term. And maybe it's me, maybe it's because I'm not checking for growth every day like before, but each week when I redo my twists I'm pleasantly surprised.

My hair has done better now that I have STOPPED jumping on bandwagons and just do the minimal stuff. I was doing more harm than good when Iwas taking EVERY piece of advice that I learned and trying to do it.

Not saying that the techniques people follow are not beneficial, but I realize that less really is more, at least for me.

But, I have to say, this board is such a great tool when you are trying to get over hurdles. The advice is priceless.

Yes you ladies are right. "Ignorance is bliss. Knowledge is power. Ignorance is expensive."

And I'll add Knowledge is expensive! I think once I pin down my routine, I will stop dreaming about the next luscious, yummy deep conditioner, pre-poo or oil that I haven't tried yet.
