I've been hennaing for a couple of years using regular Jamila henna from the Indian grocery store. A lot of it doesn't have an expiration date and it comes in a clear cellophane wrap. It seems to work fine on my hair - cherry cola highlights when you see my hair in the light.

I recently purchased 2 boxes of Jamilla henna in the foil wrapper with the crop date - Summer 2009 and 3 year expiration.

Has anyone tried both and is the "fresher" henna truly superior than the other one??

As far as I know, the foil packaged henna is the finest sift. The sift is coarser in the cellophane.

:yep: What she said. I've used both and the foil package is a lot finer sifted, really easy to rinse. Nicer color release IMO as well.
