Okay ladies, how much do you pay for a relaxer (keeping in mind they blow dry and straighten you afterward)? How much is entirely too much for you to pay?
I live in an expensive area and I've become accustomed to paying $85 for a relaxer, I'm not upset about it anymore. So when I made an appointment at a salon and they told me they charge $90 -$110 I was okay with it.
However, I was shocked to get a bill for $208 - I thought the lady had lost her mind! What they failed to tell me was the relaxer was $100, they charged me $52 to blow dry my hair and another $20 to go over it with a flat iron. The rest was for a couple of products I purchased from the boutique section.
I think this sh!t is a rip-off. The woman who did my hair asked me twice if I wanted her to blow dry my hair but didn't mention it was extra, so I said yes - I wasn't going to go home with a dripping wet head. I just think that if you relax someone's hair the blow-dry/flat-iron should be included in the original price of $100.
When I visit my mom I go to a place called Synergy in Delaware and they give me a relaxer/blow-dry/flatiron and trim for 70 dollars and my hair looks great - even better than this place. So I was pissed about the bill and I will never go back. I told the lady the price was too much and she told me I should work it into my budget so I can come regularly - I should have scalped her, lol. NEVER AGAIN.

PM me if you have boatloads of money and want the name of this place - I'm not going to front, she did a good job.

Oh My Gosh!!!!!!! Are You Serious?? $208.00? I mean my goodness, I am speechless! Now How Long will that $208.00 style last you? That is just rediciulous to me. I can 101 things I could have done with that Money LOL!!!!
OUCH!!!!!!!!

Girl, if you want ME to scalp her, I will sho'ly pay her a visit because that was entirely WAY TOO MUCH to be charged for what she did!!! I don't care where ya live....

*faints*

OMG!!!! I pay $35 for my relaxer at the Dominican salon in NY. And that includes the relaxer, deep condition, roller set, and blow-out!!! And they do a fabulous job!!!

That is entirely too much to charge someone for that.... but what angers me the most is that she did not tell you that those procedures (ie, blow out) would cost extra. That is so unfair! What if you had only come with a certain amount of cash and simply did not have it?

That would be my first AND last visit there. And ole' girl would not have gotten a tip! Sorry, they can take her tip out of that outrageous price!!!

I kind of wish you had posted a pic. I've never seen $172 worth of hairdo before...Did you at least get a good deal on the products you purchased?

That's crazy. I lived pretty close to you (in Columbia MD) and at my salon, those other services are included in the price for a touch up, about $90 (that includes tip). How did they expect you were going to walk out of there; dripping wet?

Umm...do they serve drinks and snacks to clients as they get their hair done?
Even then, that is just too much to pay for the kind of service you got.

I used to go to a nail shop that served wine...they gave me a two drink maximum!!! Shoot, I was trying to get my money's worth.:D

That is crazy. I cannot see any reason to pay anyone $208 to relax my hair. Did that include the tip???

Girl, You are a good one, because I wouldn't have paid extra for the blowdry or flat iron. That is not usually standard and they should have stated that when you told them what they wanted done. Dem Bazzzztuds....

Where is it? so I can make sure to have my friends and family in the area to avoid them or at least be prepared to almost pay a car note.

After billing $208 did she then expect a tip?  That aint right...there better be no growth for at least six month for that amount of money.

They were waaayy out of line with the price and the whole a la carte services. We should pickett!!!!

I have never in my life heard of a touch up being that much  !-I agree-the stylist should have let you know that the blowdrying etc is extra-which is beyond me cause I thought it was always included in the price of the touch up.

I know that's right. When I called this lady to get the total price to braid my hair she quoted me 2 prices one if I brought my own hair, and one if I used hers. Well I brought my own and she tried to charge me more saying that type of hair is more money. I politely told her she should have told me on the phone, I only brought what she quoted. She was looking pissed and asked could I go get the money. My reply in a sarcastic tone was "yeah I'll run to the atm to get it" of course I just went home

Even though that is WAAAAAYYYYYYY too much money for a relaxer and a blowdry and flat iron, some salons do charge extra for it. Usually when the stylist keeps asking if you want a service, they mean that it is going to cost extra. $52 for a blow dry is outrageous, but you can ask if you can do it yourself at an empty station. Also, you don't always have to go over with a flat iron if you blowdried.

O.k., I'm at work and I almost fell out of my chair:lachen::lachen: :lachen:

Wow, that's a lot of money:eek: If my husband knew I had paid that much for my hair to get done, he surely would of took every penny and plastic out of my purse.:( Seriously though, I believe that's entirel to much. I charge my clients $35-$45 for all of the hair services you received. Like the other member stated, if need be, I'll come up there and scalp that heffer for ya!!!:lachen:

Rip Off! A blow dry should be included in the relaxer price. I can see charging extra for flat ironing (my salon does). Did you ask her afterwards since a blow dry was not included with the relaxer, what was? Were you just to leave the salon with we hair?

OMG! I was just thinking the SAME thing! Girl, the $65 my stylist charges seemed like too much! I can't imagine $200+!

And then with no warning either?!? Those fools waited until it was all done to tell her that crap.

We all want to know - what type of drying is INCLUDED in the relaxer price??? If it's none, then these people are crooks:mad: I got a virgin relaxer last yr that was $100 and included a trim (which I didn't let her do).

Are prices spelled out clearly at the entrance? I don't think I would have pd to be blowdried. Flatironing - I expect to pay extra for.

I haven't breathed a word of this to my SO, he would have a fit. I always want him to pay for something and swear I'm on a budget.

Sorry ladies, I don't have a pic and I've washed my hair (this was last week and I just didn't have time to post). But trust me, what I had wasn't worth all that money. I definitely learned my lesson though - I will ask about the price and make sure everything is included from now on.

Salons like the one you described charge what their market will bear. Apparently that salon's regular customers don't have a problem paying those prices. They're typically the type of people who want to brag to their friends about their $150 hairdo, especially given the "expensive area" in which they're located. So I ain't mad at them for their prices, per se. However, I do believe that you should have been advised of all charges upfront. But then again, it sounds like the type of place that believes if you have to ask, you probably can't afford it.

I work at a chain salon that has a la carte pricing, and we always advise customers beforehand, especially first-timers, what their total ticket will be. This eliminates any surprises/drama. The total for the same services at our salon would have been $53. A basic rollerset is included in our relaxer T/Up price of $43, but heat styling is $10 extra.

$52 for a blow dry???....I hope a complimentary deep tissue massage, cheese AND wine came with that. Here in Louisiana, all that you described would have cost $50 with free treatment well at least at the salon I went to.$35 for wash, dry and style. For what you paid I could get my hair done every week for a month and a week.

I pay $55 includes deep condition, trim, rollerset and blowdrying roots, (wrapping optional)

Girl you are better than me, because there is no way I would have paid her.

She told you one price then added on extras without giving you a price. That is a game some slick salons play on new clients. I would have kindly told her she should have stated the price for the extras, since she didn't it was assumed part of the service. AGAIN, I would have not given her the money, only the agreement amount and walked out. I think if people stop paying them, they would stop playing these little games of "extras".

Girrrrl, Rockville is a high area. But that is ridiculous. You better go in the 'hood in DC, and get one of those ladies to hook you up for less than half that price!

:eek::eek::eek:

Girl, oh hellz no!

That's crazy! I pay 65 dollars for a relaxer, deep conditioning, blowdry, flatiron and if I want one, a trim!

That is crazy!!! I am in Italy and for all that plus a trim I pay about $70 and sometimes I feel like that's too much!!
