Is is true that your are not suppose to use a neutralizing shampoo after a relaxer but actually a week later? or is this just a myth? is it safe to use a Ne. Poo after a relaxer? Please Respond b/c my hair stylist claims otherwise

yes, you use it to get the ph of your hair back to normal after a relaxer and to also make sure the relaxer is all the way out. if you dont , its called "overprocessing" and take it from me, you dont want that to happen. your hair will start to break off. now , i know of some relaxers that you apply conditioner first , and then neutralizer (as with some motions relaxers) , but always neutralize right after to be safe. also make sure that it is being neutralized long enough. are you doing this relaxer yourself?

No im not doing it myself and friend tat does hair will do it for me. also do u still use a Neutr. Poo even though you are using a Relaxer kit that is no lye and not the professional Lye kit? I just want 2 make sure b./c i plan on doing my relaxer 2morr so I want all the basics. How many time do u apply ur Neutr.Poo?

Are you sure your stylist was talking about the neutralizing shampoo. I've heard of stylist giving bad advice but this takes the cake. Neutralizing shampoo is an essential step to the realxing process. Failure to use one can put you at risk for damage and hair loss. Neutralizing shampoo stops the relaxer from continuing to process your hair and restores it's ph level. While everything from water to conditioners will help bring it back down it's ph level a nutralizing poo is very important. This is the another step in the relaxer process that I am meticulous about.

Yes, you still want to use the neutralizing poo even with the no lye relaxer.I lather 3 times and rinse well and blot the excess water out of my hair with my hands so it doesn't dilute the poo. I let the 1st lather stay on for 5 full minutes before rinsing it out.

girl , if she is the one who told you this, DONT let her do it, otherwise read the instructions that come with the relaxer kit very carefully. and yes ALWAYS ALWAYS use a neutralizer. some relaxers mix and work different than others. some will tell you to apply the condtioner first, and let it sit for a few minutes then rinse and shampoo with the neutralizer. and some (most) it is vice versa. the neutralizer is applied as many times as it takes until the relaxer is rinsed out ( i do it at least 3-4 times and scrub hard ). and they say that it needs to be n contact with the hair at least 5 minutes or longer for the ph to get back. some relaxer kits have the type of shampoo that if there is any relaxer still left on your hair, the lather will be pink . just make sure to read the directions VERY closely.is this your first relaxer? and if you dont mind me asking, what kind is it?

oh ok, ive used this relaxer before. it works pretty good too. yeh, you should be good using the neutralizer. it doesnt do anything extra, it wont take your hair out or nothing like that. its just used to make sure the relaxer isnt "processing" your hair after it has been rinsed. ive had the overprocessing happen to me on more than one occasion, from a stylist who didn’t leave it on there long enough . She just put it on scrubbed a little bit rinsed it out and did it again. And after like a week , I notice excessive shedding more than normal. Make sure she rinses the relaxer out as much as she can first and then apply the neutralizer. Then lather and scrub as much as she can out and do it again and again until it feels like there is no more residue on your hair. You should be good. If yall follow the directions to the "t" , everything should be fine. Just as long as she know how to apply the relaxer and everything, it should come out pretty straight.don’t overapply it or leave it on too long either. It’s a good relaxer though. My last relaxer was with Design essentials, and I like it.
