I have natural hair that I press. I have tried to air dry it in braids and then press it as to eliminate some of the heat that I put on it, but I always end up with hair that is so tangled until it is ridiculous. I make sure to detangle before I braid it in large braids but i end up with breakage all over the place. To remedy this problem, I was considering blow drying my hair on cool until it becomes dry. In your opinion is this harmful to the hair? I have some of the kinkiest hair you have ever seen so I have to do something to straighten it out otherwise I just end up pulling it out and breaking it.

it seems like the braids should work thats what i do/did how many braids are you doing? are you securing the ends?

blowdrying on cool should not be a problem seems to me like airdrying

I recommend setting your hair while it's soaking wet. Try a leave in conditioner like infusim23 with a wrap lotion ( i like wrap and roll by jane carter solution) comb thru each piece and wrap tightly on roller. The heat from sitting under a dryer is not as damaging as you think. You are gently baking the hair into your straight style. It Will probably cause a lot less damage and drying time from you air drying in a braided state and then trying to press. HHG

tippy75, do you put anything in your hair (like oil or grease) to lubricate it before you detangle and braid? That will help with the tangles. After you wash and condition your hair, apply oil or grease to your hair in sections, detangle each section one at a time, and then braid that section up.

Also, using heat may be the reason you are experiencing breakage.

HTH!

I use about 6 braids. But I don't secure them with anything on the ends I usually wash one section at a time and braid it back up. Am I supposed to be securing them with something on the ends and just leaving them braided? Please tell me something because I get the feeling that I have been doing my washings very wrong!

I have tried rollersetting before but it is such a hassle because my hair is just so kinky that all of that manipulation causes breakage and then once it is dry when I try to comb it (even with my fingers) I still get breakage. Maybe i need to start looking for a better detangler or something. I just saw your album and I see that you said you were texturized. WHen you roller set while you were completely natural did you get the same results?

Truth be told I dont even like the rollersets now. Mostly because my length is too short for my liking. The few roller sets I had as a natural i used oil moisturizer (like kera care/elasta qp recovery) while my hair was wet. From natural to texturized I have experienced little breakage just ends that need trimming.
