I'm planning on getting my hair relaxed this wkend. I am also getting another colourshines application, along with a deep deep conditioner

and than getting my hair rollerset but NOT blown out.
Here's the cincer. Would it be overkill to get my hair flatironed after the rollers r removed? I am sure she'll use a heat protectant so that's not really the issue, i just want to make sure that relaxing and flatironing can live harmoniously 2gether

TIA

Would you consider maybe wrapping the hair after the rollers were removed? That would be an healthier option.

I don't think it would be too damaging for you to flat iron just this once.

I dont think it will kill your hair as long as it doesnt become a habit.
PrettyBrownEyes: I think the rollersetting is another way of flattening the hairs' cuticle before flat ironing - - like the way some folks blow dry and then flat iron...rollersetting is less damaging than the blowdryer in my opinion...perhaps CH wants that silky flat ironed look instead of the bouncy rollerset look...just a guess...

Luna - u hit the nail right on the head. I don't want a head full of bouncy curls, for once, i wanna walk out of the salon with some STRAIGHT hair

I don't ever get my hair blown out, esp. when wet, my hair is too 'snappy' (a lot of elasticity i've been told), i feel like i can hear it breaking.
Dig - i usually wrap my hair after getting it set but i wanted to try something a little different.

Oh, I see! I think she can set it on some humongous rollers for you, so that there won't be too much curl in your hair, and then, bump it straight.

Re: Is this 2 much? Relaxing/Flat ironing question

Yeah my stylist does this sometimes. Sometimes I have him wrap it after taking out the rollers...sometime I have him blow it straight...depends on my mood.

Or CH, after the stylist applies her setting lotion, etc., she doesn't even have to roll it up. She can proceed to wrap the wet hair and let it dry under the hood. Once it's completely dry, she can release the wrap and flat iron. The only downfall to this is that it takes forever to dry.

that is a good idea tho... i know my big @ss head can't go under the dryer with them big black rollers... is there a size in b/t the gray and black ones?

Re: Is this 2 much? Relaxing/Flat ironing question

K - my hair is too thick for that. I had to get it cut into the pixie just for them to try it b4. (not the same stylist tho). i'd b under that sucker for 40 days and 40 nights.

Oh my goodness. Can you imagine them trying to adjust your head under that thing?

I remember trying to fit my fat noggin under my bonnet cap dryer with those big bouffant rollers on. The visual is so funny right now....

Re: Is this 2 much? Relaxing/Flat ironing question

This is directed at the person who originally began this post. I used to relax, blow dry and then flat iron before I became educated about roller sets. Although my hair would come out extremely straight, it would sometimes appear lifeless without any body and my hair is generally quite thick. I suggest that you roller set and wrap, especially as you are adding colour, I done this about a week ago and the results are remarkable, my family think that I have flat ironed my hair, thus you can get the same results in a healthier fashion via a doobie.
