Corkscrews are like springs
S curls are like waves that have been separated... The strands of hair don't wind around each other in a cylindrical fashion...
Hope I make sense...
According to Lorraine Massey's book you know you have Corkscrew hair if you have:
* Curls as tightly wound as a French poodle's if cut too short. * Lots of small coils of curls. * Superdry hair that crackles with electricity. * A high frizz factor. * Very dry skin. * Curls that tend to stand out from your head instead of laying flat. * Hair that soaks up as much conditioner as you feed it.
Many Corkscrew divas believe their hair is thickly textured, but separate a single strand and you will discover that it is actually baby fine and very delicate. That is why it breaks so easily, as African Americans can testify and because the cuticle stands out instead of lying flat, the curls catch and the hair snarls easily. Most tangles and snarls are found under the top layer of hair, at the nape of the neck.
Due to the fact that Corkscrew curls are so very dry, your mantra should be moisturized, moisturized, moisturized. Hydrate your scalp as often as you apply moisturizer to your face and give your curls lots of TLC. African American curly hair is most similar to Corkscrew curls in fragility and dryness.
You know you have Botticelli hair (S-curl) if you have:
* Curls that vary in size. * Curls that fall gracefully down your head instead of sticking straight out. * Texture that is medium-fine. * Hair that is brittle and esaily damaged. * Curls that sometimes cannot be coaxed into making an appearance because they are weighed down by the top layer of hair.
Like people with tight curls, Botticelli curly girls have to keep their hair well hydrated with humectants and emollients, but this kind of hair needs less conditioner for it's daily routine. The curls are looser, in the shape of soft S's.
