I think that there is, but I agree with 26inchhair's statement about using moisture to combat problems. I also think that there is a stronger correlation between stretching out relaxer and hair length. I think that the longer the hair is, the easier it is to work with and find styles that help stretch out the relaxer. When hair is shorter, there are less options for styles with one's own hair, so there is the feeling that the hair is harder to deal with. And no one wants to be looking crazy just to stretch out the relaxer and not everyone wants braids. But if hair is long enough for a bun or pony, then it is a little easier when you don't feel like you look like a hot mess. This is just my opinion based on my own experience. Now, with longer hair, I will stretch my relaxer, but when I had the Halle Berry cut or even a bob, heck no!
IMHO, yes. I have type 4b, and my hair is very prone to breakage when stretching. I would imagine the dryness breakage would be less for any other type, therefore allowing people with those types to stretch for longer with better results (after all, anyone could continue to stretch even with breakage, but the results would be a mess).

I've also found that the longer my hair has become, the easier it is to stretch out my relaxer.
I do find that the longer one's hair gets the more the new growth seems to be stretched out and so one can stretch relaxers longer than usual. Everyone has different experiences though.
