My hair is naturally dry and tangles. I was thinking maybe if I took olive oil or some naturally fatty oil every night that it would help soften my new growth and provide more natural oil for my hair. Which would help me retain length but also prevent dryness.
I also heard that it's beneficial to the skin. My gran took it and she still has plump wrinkle free skin now at *cough*70something*cough* years young.

Anyone tried this?

Firstly......... your hair is beautiful! :)

Secondly............. hmmm, well Ive never heard of olive oil ingested orally.... but i know that many women on the board are taking Flaxseed Oil (as capsules or liquid form) and are getting many of the same results that you have described (ie, softer new growth, natural oil for hair and skin, etc.)

Good luck, whatever you decide to go with!

Beautiful Hair!!!

I don't know much about taking Olive Oil orally. However, flaxseed oil should provide the same benefits.

Wow gorgeous hair,, never heard of taking olive oil orally, but flax oil, sesame seed oil, cod liver oil, that is what I take..

Yes, i have read that it's ok to take a spoon of vegetable oil a day for hair and skin, however it is not as healthy as flaxseed oil which will serve the same purpose you want.

I have heard of taking liquid Olive Oil from older women. I usually take flaxseed oil, Flaxseed primrose oil blend, or Cod liver oil. Works wonders for my dry skin and scalp.

Your hair is very pretty, I also vote on Flax Seed oil. You could probably get a little of both by adding it to a salad daily

I have heard about taking EVOO orally although I haven't researched it for humans like I researched taking coconut oil orally. I did read something recently about taking a couple teaspoons of olive oil will curb one's apetite, but, again it was only in passing. I did research it about three years ago for dogs. I give my foster doggies a teaspoon a day in their food and not only does it cure dry skin, curb allergies, got rid of flakes and dandruff, stopped them from gnawing on their paws and stomach, but their fur is very soft and shines like glass. I found this online about EVOO.

it helps to assimilate vitamins A, D and K;

it contains essential fatty acids that cannot be produced by our
own bodies;

it slows down the aging process;

it helps bile, liver and intestinal functions.

You're hair is beautiful!!!
My grandmother takes it and she is in her 80's and she can sit on her hair almost and her skin is pretty, I am going to start taking it my self I think it is good just a teaspoon everynight. :)

I take flaxseed oil caps....that would be my recommendation or EPO (evening primrose oil). :yep:

Olive oil is righ in Omega 9 fatty acid. You generally get enough nine, its the 6's and 3's you have to worry about. For that take Flaxseed oil and borage oil. Omega 6 and 3 will benefit your entire body. Our western diets deplete our natural sources. Olive oil does however contain high amounts of squalene. Squalene is a fatty acid like substance that helps hair and skin retain moisture. If you want to experiment with nutritional oils, use olive oil to cook with and drizzle it on meats and whole grain bread. You can also buy olive oil salad dressings to get more in your diet. If you want to take something orally, take flaxseed oil. Its one of the best things you can take your health.

Thank you both! That's basically what I've heard, but I never paid attention. My dad always said to ignore the tv people telling women to shy away from oils and fat (he's talking about the good oils like olive, coconut and flax seed). He takes a mixture of flax seed, olive oil and one other which I can't remember, every day and pours flax seed oil on his rice and salad.

Flax seed is really expensive around here, but I'm going to buy some next time. Until then, I'll be taking a tablespoon of olive oil and capsules of cod liver oil every day.

I've also heard that Almond Oil works well for this, too. I tried taking it twice a day, but I would forget. So then I started taking it once a day. Then I stopped altogether. I only did this for a little over a week, so no results to post. Maybe I'll try again.

Hi there. Gotta agree with the rest that your hair is beautiful!:)

Anyway, to answer the question, Ive heard of people who injest olive oil daily. Its a diet called Shangri Li Diet that does this. Actually, the diet recommends that you take about a tablespoon of ELOO (extra light olive oil) instead of EVOO twice daily. Anyway, to make a long story short, participants were saying that the olive oil decreased their appetites, and that they were also seeing wonderful added benefits with their hair and skin.
