Hey ladies,

I am starting to see a lot more shedding since I texlaxed a few weeks ago. She used a Silk Elements lye regular. Is this normal? I started birth control a month and half ago and I was wondering if it might be that too.

I did an apoghee treatment, but that hasn't seemed to help.

Shedding happens. Are you losing more than 100 strands per day?

Are you sure it's shedding and not breakage? I worry about breakage, but not the shedding, unless I'm losing an excessive amount of hair per day.

I definetly shedded after my virgin relaxer. It is normal I think. Think of all those shed hair that was tangled around themselves when you were natural.

I just bought the shakikai (I think that is how you spell it) soap to help halt it completly. I wouldn't worry, mine supsided after the 2nd month. Now I rarely shed. But I don't comb my hair during the week and I only comb on wash days, so when I do was I might see some shed hairs.

Oil rinse definetly helps and I usually DC with conditioner overnight and I make sure to also use oils (castor or olive) on my scalp heavily as well in my overnight DC.

Hair is a breeze when I do wash it the next day. I find the drier my hair, the more I seem to shed, so I moisturise like there is no tomorrow.

Hope that helps

it depends on the rate that you are shedding. excessive shedding could mean that the relaxer was left on too long or not properly neutralized. just make sure you check the amount of shedding and that you are not developing any bald patches. however, this time of the year coupled with birth control can increase the amount of shedding you experience
