My daughter will be a flower girl in a wedding on Jan 14, 2006. My aunt (the bride) suggested that my daughter recieve a press so that all the flower girls hair can be styled the same. My daughter is 3 now but will be 4 on the wedding date. Do you guys think she is to young to experience the hot comb?

What style is she trying to get all the little girls to wear? I, personally, would not press a 3 year olds hair. My goddaughter is three and her hair is still very soft and an updo works fine for her hair. I understand how ladies feel when it comes to their wedding, but since your daughter is so young I wouldn't suggest pressing it. I think you can achieve most styles on her hair unless she wants it out and straight, but I think that would be too much for a 3 year old still. At that age, IMO, the hair is still changing and who knows what a press could do to her texture.

ETA: Here's a pic of how my goddaughter wore her hair for her school's graduation program. She had a puff that lasted a long time because the kids were to be there at 5 anf the program didn't start until like 8 pm. You know that is a long time for a 3 year old. It was probably closer to 9 pm when this pic was taken.

I think she is too young, and if you don't feel comfortable doing so recommend another style

My daughter is 5, and she hasn't had a press yet. What type of style are the girls wearing? I agree with Kaddy, natural updo's are very nice. Most of my friends with daughters didn't start pressing until after 5 yrs of age.

I think she is too young for heat also...tell us about her length and texture, maybe we can help you brainstorm....twists on rollers would be cute if her hair has a curl pattern...

I know a woman who pressed her 5 year old's hair... but it wasn't a hard press and it was still light and fluffy... just not as voluminous...

I think she might be a little young from a physical perspective, but I also realize that there are many little girls that age who do get their hair pressed, so I don't know.

I do compare getting your first heat-based style to losing your virginity though--it's hard to go back! :D You see how pretty the hair lays and how soft it feels and how long it looks--then either you, friends and family or the daughter wants that same look again and again. That's probably how it started with a lot of us--occasional presses for special occasions. Next thing, we wanted that look and feel permenantly and got our relaxer at 7!

I say no. I don't think it's fair for a 4 year old to have to sit through a press. I hated having my hair pressed and I was considerably older when my mother pressed my hair. I also think that the chances of her not sitting still in combination with the heat is not safe to her or her hair.

I wouldn't do it, wouldn't even waste another minute thinking about doing it (unless you were already planning on doing it when she turned 4). It's just one day and she's still a baby IMO and it's just not worth it when there are so many cute ways a little girl can wear her hair.

I'm gonna have to say no on that one. She is too young, I agree with the poster that said she shouldn't have to sit through that. I remember getting my hair pressed at 7 and it was torture so I can't imagine anyone younger having to endure it.

My daughter is 3 with thick, curly hair..I guess if it was typed it would be a 4a? ....anyway. I have never "pressed" her hair...but it has been flat ironed...twice...with beautiful results. I think it all depends on your childs hair type. A little bit of humitdity or water and my baby's hair will revert back, with the prettiest naturally curly curls you'd ever want to see. (**sniffing**ah.. to be natural again**sniff, sniff**)

Thanks ladies for the responses! I personally think she is way to young to get her hair pressed. I was just trying to make sure that I wasnt way off base when I tell her "hell to the naw" :look:

IMO, it's a little young. Did she say how she wanted the girls to wear their hair? Can't they still wear the same style, even if ones hair is not pressed bone straight?

I'd like to see you get a 4-yr. old to sit still long enough to press and style their hair, even if they are asleep& not burn them.

My daughter also has thick curly hair, what do you put on her hair? Right now I keep her hair in plaits or pony tails, but occasionally like for church or something I would like her to keep her curls, but don't really know how to maintain the style, while it's wet it looks great, but how do you keep it looking like that? Thanks
