Is Keracare's 1st Lather Shampoo Clarifying?

I've used it for a few years and I really like it. The directions state that you are supposed to follow up with a moisturizing/conditioning shampoo- so you'll need to use something else after. It works great for me though.

Yes, I use it to clarify every few weeks, and I like it. I always follow it with either KeraCare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo or CON.

Dang lol I didn't know it clarified!

I used it yesterday, but I didn't know it was to clarify. I had just clarified last week with baking soda..I think:perplexed lol. I'm happy it's not that drying though. It let my hair really soft after I used it, the Hydrating Shampo, and Humecto. Now I just wanna play in the softness of my new growth... I have hand n head syndrome :nono:

It is important to note that it does not chelate. It didn't work for me because :

1 I have hard water

2 it is very stripping. Even following with keracare hydrating detangling shampoo didn't balance it out for me. I think it is definitely formulated for those who use mineral oil/silicones heavy products, like the keracare maintainance products.

3 I need to be able to do one lather only or my scalp/hair will be so dried out.
HTH

I give this shampoo a 1 out of 5 stars.

It was more like using dish detergent on my hair.

After 4 weekly shampoos with it, but hair had the worse time getting back to normal, even though I was still using my moisturizing shampoo after it.

I did not know what was wrong! It is not good for anyone that has hard water, mineral build up in their pipes, or calcium build up from no-lye relaxers.

After using it for a few weeks, my hair started feeling hard, dry and was brassy looking. NOTHING I did helped.

Then when I ran out of the shampoo and almost all of my tears, I went back to my Kenra clarifying. No kidding here - after one lather with the Kenra, my hair felt 500% better and closer to normal.

That is how I realized that the Keracare 1st Lather just does not work it many circumstances.

2 thumbs down!!!!

yes it's a clarifying shampoo. i've been using it religious once a month for a few years now. I always follow it up with their detangling shampoo. I'm a keracare lover for life!

What's the name of the Kenra clarifying poo? I used Baking Soda the other week but I don't think I got in in my hair efficiently like I need to. I don't know if it got all the way to my scalp since it doens't lather up...so I rather use poo.

Sounds like you weren't using KeraCare Hydrating Detangling shampoo after. You'd probably need to using Hydrating Detangling for 1-2 washes after the using the 1st Lather for the first wash.

If you're using another brand after using KC 1st lather, then obviously you might not get the correct results cuz that other shampoo may not have the same kinda conditioning agents that KC Hydrating & Detangling has.

Warm Regards,

GOD

If you can do only one lather, then why are you even using 1st Lather shampoo in the first place?

One lather of Hydrating and Detangling should probably be good enough for you.

nah, the keracere did not help. I did use that afterwards. I bought them together actually.

Is it me or does the Hydrating and Detangling smell like CON? Anyway, after a month of using those, I decided with confidence that they are not for me!

That also taught me about my water in the first place. I was just using Kenra because I wanted a clarifying shampoo. It took a switch from it and then back to it for me to realize my problems run deep.

I had a water test done and BAM! I have hard water. :nono: It took about 3 or 4 washes with the set for the problem to start. It was fine the first few times, though.

But, I really do need a chelating clarifier for my water condition. And I live in an area that is supposed to be soft. I read that sometimes it is the pipes that can make your water hard afterall.

By the way ladies, you can get a free water test strip if you go to the Robert Craig website and order their booklet with the color examples. It is just a pamplet catalog, but there is a hard water test strip in there.

Edited to add:
Here is the robert craig site: http://www.robertcraig.com/php/index.php?location=request

I was hesitant to post this, cuz you know how we do. LOL They will be out of their current stock of brochures within hours! LOL They will be wondering how the heck they got 100 orders for catalogs in 6 min. time. :spinning:

Oh okay, I think i sorta understand

Have you tried using the Keracare Demineralizing wipes? I don't have the same problem with my water as you do so I really dont know how to use these.

You know those have been on my mind for quite some time now. I would really like to try them. I actually saw them at a BSS here in MD and did not get them. I wonder if using them would eliminate the need to use the shampoo. I honestly DON'T like the idea of using the Kenra shampoo with every wash.

Well , let me clear it up for you.
1. I am not currently using the crap now. I was speaking of my experiences using the shampoo from about 2+years before LHCF. This past summer I found that I need to take care of all of my cleansing needs in one lather and I need to chelate in one lather. First Lather does not chelate. Keracare sells demineralizing wipes for that.

2. Actually the shampoo I am using now works better for me than Keracare Hydrating/Detangling ever did, and consistently. I would still use it, just not regularly at all. I would at best have to rotate it with my chelating shampoo and it's just not necessary. HTH
