So is it too early? That's a personal thing. People BC for different reasons: length, change, frustration, etc. So if your reason is length then maybe you should keep going. I say this because you hair is going to shrink and more pronounced then it is now. You have the relaxed ends weighing down your hair making it appear longer so when you cut off that weight its going to shrink.

I'm not good a hair typing. I've noticed that people with similar hair types don't always have the same success with the same products. I think it ends up being trial and error no matter what.

HTH!!

It's hard to say how your hair will behave when it shrinks. If you look at the thread on shrinkage, you can see it comes in different forms. But I do believe if you plaited it at night, and used a product like S Curl, you could get a bit of stretch without having pointy ends (coz of the S Curl) and therefore have look and maybe length similar to what you posted.

As for knowing your type, I don't think you will truly know it till you BC. People are always surprised to see how different their natural hair is from what they saw as growth. And if worried about products, I recommend S Curl No Drip Activator spray. I don't think it's ever failed type 3 or 4. It'll keep your hair soft and moisturized and if you baggy at night, you only ever need to apply it on day one and you can have soft hair for days. My hair is type 4B and used to have a rough, dry feel to it before S Curl:

Since I started using S Curl, it no longer felt rough but was as soft as it looks below in the enlarged pic. Plaiting it at night before baggying made sure I had no knots and tangles and combing in the morning was a breeze. Baggying helped it penetrate strands and also prevented moisture loss into my pillow:

I agree with adora!!! When you are ready you will know!!!! I wanted to BC at 2 years - I BC'ed at 5 months... I am not at the length I want to be but I LOVE it1!!!!!! absolutely adore it!!!

I feel like if you're asking if it's too early, then it definitely is.

When you're ready to chop you won't ask anything except...where the heck are my scissors?

Thanks for all of the responses.. i guess ill continue to wait on that "aha" moment.. the scary part is i have NO idea what my hair will do with the relaxer ends chopped off..If i knew i would chop now. Since i don't know, i feel like i need to have enough hair so i can wear it straight comfortably if it does something that looks crazy..or if i don't look right with the style.. Thanks again everyone..!!
