I took my micro braids out the other day & will get a couple of wigs & begin baggy-ing (DARKEMPRESS INSPIRED!:) YOU GO GURRLLLL!!!). I walk every evening for about 45 mins after work & i sweat the days drama out of me:p . Will i cause more harm than good by washing & baggy-ing everynight & wigging in the am for work?

Washing often is not bad as long as your hair does not become too dry. I did not do well baggying because I have fine porous hair and baggying caused it to become weaker.

The tried and true principle of balancing protein and moisture seems to be the key. For me baggying threw this off balance.

When I was in college. I worked at a Mexican Restaurant and came home smelling like funky fajitas and onions after every shift. I washed my hair everyday with CON red label. I don't remember which moisturizer I was using at the time. I think it might have been TCB cream hairdress.

I experienced wonderful hair growth/health during that period of time. And no ill effects. I was mostly doing braidouts. And yes I was blowing it dry.

Make sure that your scalp gets dry everyday. I'm not sure about putting a wig on wet hair as I've never worn one, but I would be a bit worried about the scalp. I don't think washing daily could hurt your hair, but with your routine you'd have to be careful of over-manipulation.

When I wash my hair daily (usually in the summer), it grows so much better. I don't use shampoo everyday though. I use conditioner every other day or I just rinse it with water. It all depends on my activities for that particular day.

Bagging was a whole nother thing. My hair is not fine, but like Trimbride, it threw the moisture balance off.

when i joined this forum i strted washing everyday, before here i would wash maybe twice a month. my hair loves it and is thriving! this is the longest its even been!

Hi, I had a very similar regimen when I first started my healthy hair journey. The first six months, I was transitioning and slowly cutting off relaxed ends. Then when I big-chopped down to one inch of hair, I wore a wig. I would wead a shower cap, cover it w/a wig cap, and then wear the wig.

Someone mentioned not to cover wet hair with wig. I agree. So if the wig will be an everyday thing, you may want to wash at night and dry hair in the morning. Or you may want to wash every other day, to give hair enough time to dry.

I wouldn't think that washing every day would be a problem as long as you knew how to properly care for it (like keeping it moisturized, not using heat after every single wash, not pulling out to many strands when its wet). Many caucasians wash their hair everyday and it does wonders for them. Of course we don't have the same grade of hair as caucasians, however with proper care washing everyday shouldn't hurt.

what is a braid out....i'm still a newbie???;)

A braid out is when you braid your hair in sections when it is wet and take it out when it is dry. It gives your hair that nice beautiful waves. Some people do braidouts when the hair is dry and just sleep in the braids overnight. They lose them out in the morning and go. I'll see if I can find some examples for you.

For my hair, yes. More washing = more manipulation, more breakage, more heat exposure(since i usually blow dry my hair). I like to wash my hair every 2 weeks in the winter and probably once a week in the summer.

For me more washing = more conditioning, softer hair, stronger hair, shinier hair, more manageable hair, and a flake-free, healthy, moisturized scalp.

Washing my hair more often has been one of the best things I ever did for my hair. Before it was dry, breaking, and my scalp was a mess...now my hair and scalp are really healthy and well conditioned. My hair loves water...the more it comes in contact with the softer and more moisturized it looks and feels.

I shampoo my hair once a week and co-wash damn near everyday but when I shampoo my hair, I never put the shampoo on the last 3 or 4 inches of my hair. I'm told that dries your hair out, when you constantly apply shampoo to your ends. I only shampoo my scalp/the base of my hair. I have been doing this since December 2005 and my ends loves me for it.

For me its good. I wash my hair maybe twice a week and condition wash every single day. There are days that I just let the water run over it. I will use the suggestion not to shampoo all the way down to the ends. Maybe my ends will thicken up. I stopped doing the baggy method because it was making me get overheated and I just couldn't handle it anymore. I loved it though but I was stressed with body heat. So I haven't worried so much about moisturizers because it gets wet every day and also I haven't been putting in oils either - yet I have no breakage - no stress areas nothing. My hair is pretty much the same. Also I use different conditioners all the time. It depends on what I am looking for that day.

Too much shampooing dried out my hair and led to split ends. Perhaps I wasn't using the right shampoos but I tried so many and none seemed to make the condition of my hair better. I'd loved shampooing nearly every day but I saw a real difference when I gave it up using shampoo so frequently. Now I rinse and condition my hair every 1-2 days and shampoo every 1-2 weeks.

I work out daily as well, and I sweat a lot in my head. I've started washing my hair several times a week after I got folliculitis from the sweating, so had to step up my game! I was worried about the manipulation, and what I can say is that my hair is definitely growing well. However, I think I might also be experiencing some breakage, but I'm not sure because I've been shedding for some time as it is.

My advice is to be careful and experiement. See if washing only twice per week is enough--tho I know if you're really sweating, you may need to do more. As for manipulation, I find that detangling under running water is a godsend--it seems easier and gentler than combing out with a detangler afterward.
