is it necessary to dc under a dryer for 30 mins. well in my case i am asking because usually when i do that my hair detangles well but sometimes i dont have time for that.... wat u guys think?

I think at least 10 to 15 minutes will do the trick, especially when u are in a rush. Heck thats what they do in the salon.

Heck no! I would never sit under there that long. I sit under 10-20 min, sometimes just 5 when I am really busy. It is rare that I sit under there 20 min or more. If anything I leave it in while I do housework or study or whatever, but never 30 min.

I usually stay under there for 15 minutes. A couple of times I've done 20 minutes but usually 15 is the max. I'd go as long as 30 minutes if I had no heat. But 15 minutes should do the trick since you're under the dryer.

I never sit under the dryer to DC....too much trouble for me. I DC on dry hair covered with a plastic cap while I do stuff around the house. After 10 minutes or so, my body heat kicks in, so I leave the cap on for an additional 30 minutes, then rinse. This works very well for me.

If you don't want to sit underneath the dryer, you can put a plastic cap and then wrap a towel around your head. That usually generates some heat for me.

I notice a big difference between sitting under for 10 minutes and sitting under for 30 minutes. I basically consider 10 minutes a waste of time. I might as well just rinse it off immediately. It has the same result. :perplexed For me, 20 minutes is the absolute minimum and 50+ minutes is ideal.

I just grab a good book, turn the closed caption on the TV, or use the laptop. The time flies by and my hair appreciates it so much more.

I agree 100% with you. You need the heat to open up the hair shaft for the protein to enter in. Once it is entered, you can wash off the excess and your hair is nice and strong!

I DC for 30-60 mins x2 a week while watching TV. That's the only way I can sit still for that time while DCing. Last time I was on LHCF while DCing. The time just flies when your attention is focused on something else. I DC when I have the time to dedicate to doing it properly.

Same here.:yep: I try to go at least 30 minutes each time, but usually go about 40. Sareca, your hair is thick like mine. I wonder if that makes a difference?

I had that same thought. Or maybe our hair is thicker because we DC longer...

ETA: Your christmas pics are too cute!

I think 10-15 minutes under the dryer is ok unless you have severe dryness or severe damage - then I think you need 30 min.

which is more beneficial to retain moisture, under the dryer for 15-20 minutes or 1hr- 2hr w/ plastic cap (no dryer)? :ohwell:

This is the first time I'm hearing of DCing for more than 15-20 min. Since I've joined here, I'd always heard that. Learn something new everyday.

I really don't think sitting under the dryer that long is necessary. Well maybe if you only do it every now and then. But weekly! :look:

My hair really does not need all of that.

Twice/week lady. :wink2: I'm sitting under the Pibbs right now and the timer is set for 40. :yep: I spend at least 40 minutes on the Web everyday doin' something. While I'm just sitting in a chair surfing or painting my nails or watching the tube I DC my hair. I didn't realize my hair needed longer DCs until I started doing them. My hair :love2: them to death. It start falling out or breaking off when I've missed a week or so, but I can feel the difference in my strands.

Yall got more time than I do! Dang. :drunk:

Besides, my hair does fine without that much deep conditioning, thank goodness. My hair is hardly ever dry or breaks and I am able to still comb my hair and use heat without breakage. My strands are very elastic which surprises me all the time because I really don't do all that much to it.

Anyway, I don't think I would be able to ever invest as much time. Everyone has to access what is needed for them, I think, but I do think that some things are overkill.

Raven, you don't think your hair is thick? I'd describe it as thick. It's not amazonian thick, but it's a long way from fine or thin. :yep: I think it's the perfect thickness.

My hair is dense and colored and natural. Heck yeah it needs at least 35 minutes under the dryer or a heating cap. That allows it to penetrate through all of the hair follicles and believe me I have a lot of follicles. And I try to pree poo on dry hair with heat before I co- poo then oil rinse then deep condition. Its laborious yes but thats how im able to keep my very dry hair made even more drier by the peroxide to lift the color. God bless you if you can do it in less time or without heat.

I READ SOME WHERE THAT DC WITH HEAT CAN ACTUALLY MAKE YOUR HAIR DRIER. CAN YOU GET A GOOD EFFECT W/O SITTING UNDER THE DRYER

This is what I do. Sometimes I run hot water over my hair turban and wrap it over my plastic cap then put another plastic cap over the turban to keep the moist heat in. I let it sit for about 45 minutes and my hair loves that! It's annoying having to stay under that dryer
