or do any of you feel that after a relaxer your hair looks really flat and dead until you wash it again and then it gains its bounce? /images/graemlins/confused.gif
it can sometimes look flat that is true. Do you notice a difference in the texture of your hair right after it is relaxed as well? I do. IT seems so much thinner/finer.
I am really NOT trying to be funny ...but isn't that what a relaxer is supposed to do? Change the texture of your hair make it flatter, straighter, thinner?
Mine did that when I was relaxed as well.
Maybe I misunderstood the question. Are you saying you don't like that look?
Have you thought about using a milder strength relaxer if you do not like the too straight look? Or even leaving it in for a shorter period of time?
That's the reason why I got a texturizer...I don't like the thin-flat look. My hair is so fine, a total relaxer would make me look like a stringy haired witch. /images/graemlins/frown.gif
There is a technical jargon reason for this which I can't remember where I read it. Its something to do with the fact that the hair strands or cortex is tightened and once its washed, it swells up again to its 'normal' size, thus giving a fuller appearance again.

No, it's not you. I just got mine relaxed Tues. and I washed and wrapped it last night and it's so plastered to my head /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif.
It takes about 1-2 weeks for your hair to bounce back.
if you use a mild protein conditioner every 3 days the hair should regain some body after the second wash. the hair is limp cos the relaxer breaks down the hair. use (mild)protein to strengthen again on a regular basis /images/graemlins/smile.gif

It's a mild relaxer that's left on for 10 minutes or less. It straightens the hair about 50 to 60%.

The concept is good, but I think people should understand that the amount of time and the strength depend on the person's hair. For example, "Mild" left on for "10 minutes" would do nothing to my hair. Perhaps if I relaxed more often and to a straighter degree, the hair growing out would be weak enough for a mild to be effective.
BrownRelaxedHair hit it right on the head. /images/graemlins/smile.gif I read that somewhere too, maybe in Shamboosie's book. I hate that thin, flat look also but I guess it can't be helped.
I think it also depends on the relaxer. I notice when I use motion oil in mild with minimal manipulation my hair comes out straight without losing body even right after the process. The downside is motions oil is a very very mild relaxer and may not work on coarser textures. (although I have a friend that uses the super and she loves it)
I agree 100% F2B. This is exactly what I find with MOR in Mild.
One of the reasons I love it so its that I keep all my body and take out only some of the curl.
Even right after a relaxer my hair has lots of body. When I used regulars and Affirm or the regular Motions my hair would have no life. Even when I used the Mild formulations.
My hair never gets totally straight and I think this is what helps retain body.
What I mean is that it is straighter, lighter AT FIRST then it gets thicker after my first wash and conditioning. Does anyone's hair just remain the same after a touch up?
I'm a little confused. What is the difference between underprocessed hair and texturozed hair?
Also, I can't believe I wanted to suck the life out of my hair (I din't know I was sucking the life out of my hair)by combin through and leaving it on for the maximum amount of time in the highest strength (WAAAAAYYY befroe hair boards!!! /images/graemlins/blush.gif)
yeah, i guess i have a texturizer then. mine is left on only long enough to be fully applied. by the time we reach the front, it's time to rinse because of my scalp... /images/graemlins/crazy.gif i think that's why i don't get the flat look, because my hair has never been relaxed really straight.
I got a perm on Saturday and it is really straight. I don't think it's dead straight, but I was a little self-conscious. I was also wondering if all the thickness had lef my hair... /images/graemlins/crazy.gif I hope it comes back the next wash!
I use MOR Regular and was wondering if I could use mild. My hair is 3C but coarse and thick and I was wondering if it would take. But I will definitely try that next time.
And to whomever posted the reason why the perm looks like that the first week, you really saved my life! I was about to lose my mind.. /images/graemlins/grin.gif
