I just got back from the beauty supply store and I bought something called Hot Six Oil...this stuff STINKS!!! I can not stand the smell of it. I thought it was okay because I sprayed some in my son's hair at the store and then I smelled his hair and it smelled really good...I forgot I had put some grease in his head. So when I got home, I sprayed a little in my hand to feel the texture of it and I smelled my hand and thought I was going to die! Is this the product everyone is raving about? I saw somewhere where someone said "African Royale Hot Six Oil." Did I get the wrong product? Can I use this as a hot oil treatment or what?

is the cap yellow or red? because the africa's best brand has a red cap and i can't stand it! i have the one with the yellow cap and it just says "hot six oil" on it, and i love for my hot oil treatments! it smells great and the oils are starting to bring out my red highlights more.

The second one is what I have w/the gold top. Not a spray bottle. I love it!

Why don't u take it back and exchange?

I hope I can take it back and exchange it since I just bought it...but you know sometimes they say "No Exchange No Refund." I'm going to give it a try anyway.

African Royale Hot Six Oil is the official name. I sometimes abbrev "Six" for "6"

I have 2 comments here...

1) You said that u "sprayed" some in your son's hair in the store.
THIS IS NOT THE OIL THAT I USE... let me explain. There's 2 brands on the market, both named "Hot Six Oil", both made by the same co. One is a "spray bottle" (that u used) and the other is a "pour bottle". I use the "pour bottle". The ingredients are slightly different among the two oils. The "pour bottle's" 1st ingredient is "Olive Oil".... the "spray bottle's" 1st ingredient I believe is "Canola Oil". I've never smelled the oil in the "spray bottle"....

2) Luv, u must have got ahold of some "old" oil. When it sits out on the shelves for some time, it smells aweful

. After purchasing some "old" stinky oil, I now do the "smell test" before I purchase it. Fresh oil sorta smells like something fruity when u unscrew the top.

Sometimes the oil will "turn" after sitting on my shelf at home. I still use it though. Once on the hair, I don't notice the smell, probably because it blended with my leave in or S-Curl. But one things for certain, it's my # 1 oil... that stuff works wonders on my hair, fruity smelling or stinky

.

BTW, it's good for hot oils

God Bless,
Peachtree

edited to add....... I TOO USE THE 2ND OIL

Peachtree...you laughing, but I was really turned off by that funk! Anyway, I just got back from the Beauty Supply store and they glady exchanged it for me, as a matter of fact, it was cheaper and it smelled LOVELY!!!

I can't wait to try it out tonight. So when you use it as a hot oil, do you put it in another container or what? Do you put it in daily as a moisterizer or dry or wet hair?

I'm trying to get the flow of things going with my hair.

I would like to put my vote in for the second pic. I too have the african royale hot six oil, and it smells really good. Works very well for hot oil treatment on damp hair.

That's what I needed to know. So there's no need to have my hair drenched with water?

Okay yall...thanks for the help. I tried it earlier today and I like it so far. My hair dried nice and smooth...and it smells good too
smile.gif
Next time I am going to take notes and go in the store with my index cards so I know exactly what to get. My thing is, I try to remember what I read on this site and when I get into the Beauty Supply store, I see all of this stuff and get the first thing that "looks" like I read about. I learned a valuable lesson today. As broke as I am, I ain't got time to be buying the wrong items!

I use the second one also on my daughter's hair and have been for quite some time. It does wonders at softeneing AND straightening her natural hair. I love it. Since Peachtree mentioned it, I've started using it also. Really good stuff.

Yes, I pour it into another container... an application bottle (with the long narrow spout). This way I can make sure that the oil is reaching my scalp as well. For moisturizing, I have a spray bottle. I use it on both dry & wet (lightly damp) hair.
BTW, I've discovered the longer I use this oil, the better the results

Armyqt, I'm glad the oil is working for ya'. Words simply can not express how much I love this oil

The lady at the beauty supply store told me I could use it as both. For hot oil, just heat it up in a cup or something. I used it yesterday as both and my hair turned out super soft today. This will definitely be a keeper in my PJ collection.

I have used this on my body as an after-shower moisturizer...it seals in the water and keeps my ashy behind smooth all day !!!

I love the spray version too!

Yep, the one on the second pic is the one I've used also! I have two bottles of that at home. Also, the Wonder 8 with 8 Essential oils is GREAT! This one also smells better than the Hot Six Oil I think!
