Is frizz bad?

I washed DS's hair tonight and did LOC (water, grapeseed oil, hair cream). Using grapeseed oil was new, but it could also have been the cream as it has glycerine but has been used before. As I combed his hair, it dried into an enormous puff! I've never seen his hair so poofy before! I resprayed with water and braided it up.

I'm just wondering, is frizz a sign of something bad or is it just an inconvenience?

I can't believe no one answered yet *shrug*

More of an inconvenience.

I think because the cream has glycerine,
it attracted more moisture
causing the frizz.

Y'all chime in if I am incorrect...

As long as hair is moisturized and healthy I don't see the problem but some people think the only acceptable way for curly hair to look is when it's perfectly defined with no frizz which is not a possible all the time. His hair probably poofed up because glycerin attracts moisture so his hair probably swelled up

Co-signing on the glycerin likely the cause of the frizz. My daughter's hair reacts the same way to glycerin products.

I for one like a bit of frizz in wash n gos, twist outs, etc. I like the volume it creates.

*Sometimes* frizz is a byproduct of raised cuticles and that can be bad because of potential tangling/breakage from friction. In that case, I'd say frizz is bad.

But in my experience, if the hair doesn't *feel* tough or rough... It's just poofy, that's probably the kind of frizz posted ^^^

HTH! :-)

Thanks for the feedback. I make my own cream and this batch feels a bit different than the last batch. Up until now, his hair had some friz when drying (with or without products) but last night his type 3 looked like my type 4 cottony hair! Actually, very much like the little girl's hair in sunnydaze avatar.

I just want to "make sure" that it wasn't a sign of damage. I'll try no glycerine next time and see if that helps. Thanks again!
