Is $2100.00 a lot to spend on a men's wedding band?

This is not an easy answer. He could pay for your ring and his and that would be easier. Is purchasing a ring like this going to be a strain on your income? Can you afford to make that type of financial sacrifice? Perhaps others will chime in with responses....:look:

Both of you should buy what you can afford (meaning not going into debt for the rings). You can upgrade later. Remember that any debt either of you incur before the wedding becomes shared debt your both stuck with after the wedding.

Well if it would put a strain on you, don't do it. You have to be able to eat . Get what you can afford now, and upgrade later, if it's that big of deal. He needs to appreciate what you give him because, the ring is nothing but a piece of metal. The true prize and value is you. And if he is a true gentleman he should understand that.

Agreed. If you can't afford it, then get what you can afford and upgrade at a later time.

I would never advise anyone to go into debt over wedding stuff.

honestly, it would put a huge strain on me financially....currently a student.

Have you spoken to him about where he thinks you're going to find the money to buy him a $2100 ring? I'm sure he knows your financial situation.

Did he spend a large amount on your ring and expects you to do the same?

No judgement, I'm just trying to figure out what's between the lines.

I agree getting what you can afford for right now and upgrading later.

There is no reason that he should have a ring that he loves and is proud of....just like you are getting the ring you want/are picking out.

If you can't afford it now then get what you can afford and start saving so you can get him what he wants on ex.your first wedding anniversary.

Question: why are you asking him defend/explain what he likes? Did he make you do the same for the ring you picked out? If not, then I don't think it's fair that you do it to him. You like what you like and he likes what he likes.

A diamond wedding band only costs $2,100? Not that 2100 isn't a lot of money. I just thought diamonds would be more expensive.

I think it's weird that a guy is being so picky about a ring, but whatever. I think you should get a cheaper one for now if it will put a strain on you financially.

I would also encourage him to do the same if buying your ring would cause him to skip a few bills.

Why are you buying his wedding band? Is that how it's supposed to go? My husband bought his own. He worked out a deal for it when he bought my rings.

yea, he said since he spent a decent amount on my ring, then I should get the ring that he likes, which happens to be very pricey.

Just buy what you can afford, or let him make up the difference. The situation would make me pause to have a conversation about marriage, finances, and expectations though before I took the step of getting engaged.

Does he want it now? Men don't usually wear an engagement ring. I just got married and I did buy my DH's ring but it wasn't until right before the wedding.

How long do you plan to be engaged? If it's at least a year from now you have time to save for it if it's something you really want to get for him and are not putting yourself in a bind by doing it.

I agree with Jmartjrmd you should have enough time to save up for a ring even if you are a student. He hasn't proposed yet so looking for rings is moot IMHO.

@chicitygirl

I was thinking that too? Why are you buying his ring? Men are supposed to buy all of the rings...

From what I've heard/tradition, the woman is supposed to purchase the man's band.

really...I wish that's how it was but my boyfriend expects me to pay for his wedding band when the time comes.

I was surprised about the tradition too. I had always assumed the groom bought his own ring.

Yea you don't need to worry about his ring until way after his proposal.

I don't like the idea of a man putting financial strain on his woman and vice versa. He knows you are a student, why the pressure to spend money you don't have readily available?

This is a great opportunity to discuss finances because he might be the type to expect you to contribute your part whether it's convenient or not and you need to know if you are okay with that.

You wouldn't need to get the ring until closer to the wedding date so you have time. Just enough time for him to have it sized and perhaps engraved. Warn him though that you might need him to make up the difference.

Knowing this would be a strain on you, I don't think you should put yourself in hock for it. Also, it would make me consider a future with him.

I wish you all of the best. xo

This is how it is supposed to be. My DH did. When did this change?

DH wasn't worried about his ring, he just wanted to marry me and make me happy. I was/am the prize.

Eta: DH bought his ring and mine.

I can't see any mentions on my IPhone. PM me if it is a must see. Allons y
