I did about 4 henna treatments over the past 2 months. Just recently, I did 2 indigo treatment, one this monday and one on wednesday. It's not turning black it's still brown, what's up with that! Can yall help a sista understand? Oh on more thing, I know for a fact that the color is releasing, because when I rinse the water is blue. Also the second time I left it on under the dryer for 2 hours.

I get it from Indian-Herbs-Exporters.Com

I get my indigo (and Henna) from Henna Sooq. I used Indigo for the first time yesterday and my hair turned black. I used hot water and put salt in it..after salt dissolved and water was warm I added the indigo and let sit for 10 minutes.
Salt helps to darken the indigo.

After 10 minutes I put it in my hair, wrapped and let it sit for 1 hour.

The picture in my avatar is my natural color. When I used henna it was too red for my liking. The indigo turned it black. I will have pictures shortly...too lazy right now.

Okay I will try it with the salt next time. Thanks

I got my indigo from Henna Sooq. I used mine mixed with henna becuase I didn't want it jet black and it still made my hair noticable darker. I have heard about that salt trick, although I've never tried it.

You may need to do this:
Apply henna, let it sit, wash out, mix indigo, apply, let it sit & wash out.

I don't use indigo, but I remember those instructions from hennaforhair.com

Yep, did that the first time doing the indigo. I henna first then Indigo. Thanks though. I bought mines from http://www.indian-herbs-exporters.com website. From what I got from Keluric (sorry for calling you out) that most of the online distributors buy in bulks from this indian exporter. I hope they didn't send me the no old crap, I bought like 500grams of this stuff! Oh well.

The indigo they sent me worked. The only thing I can think of is maybe your strands are saturated with the henna. I think this is the reason the indigo isn't working to make my mother's hair jet black.. it's staying pretty red from the henna.

Thanks keluric, I guess it's gonna take a few more treatments.

I order indigo from the same place (indian herbs exporters). The first time I used indigo with henna and my hair went from red to brown. The second time, which was a couple days later, I used indigo only, and left it for 4 hours, using heat in the last 30 minutes. My hair was jet black at first but then in the light you can see some brown streaks :). So maybe try leaving it for longer

This is the same experience I had, after initially coloring my entire hair henna, then coloring the gray with indigo -- it turned the grey black, and I, too, get my henna and indigo from hennaforhair.com

My problem is that I would PREFER the dark brown to black, and have not had luck achieving brown w/indigo and henna but I may not have mixed it properly so I'll go back to the drawing board.

Could it be the original color of your hair is just to light right now? I read on one of the sights that certain shades will not hold the color. This could be the reason many have to do it a second time. I went from a dirty brownish color to blue black. I would think a light brown would not get real dark the first time. Just guessing from my light research.

YUP..this is what I do..the 2 step..also try the salt, it really helps.

Maybe you need to do a cold water rinse after you rinse out the indigo to seal the cuticle back. Maybe the heat is opening your cuticle and the color is slipping back out and not "taking".

Good ideal!!! This weekend I will be trying the indigo again with the salt, leaving it on for aleast 4 hours and rinsing it with cold water. I feel really optimistic about this next treatment. Thanks ladies, MUAH!!!

I bought mine from Henna Sooq (http://www.hennasooq.com/). I mixed the indigo with my henna because I didn't want jet black hair. My hair did change color, but it was more of a deep red than a brown. I think I'll add more indigo to my henna mix the next time.
