In defense of long hair in middle age (NYT)

Interesting. Anyway I was always one to wonder why older women cut their hair also. I agree that it doesn't suit everyone. But that's with anything. I know however, when I become middle-aged I'm not gonna cut all my hair off just b/c other ppl think I should.

^^^See, I have always thought that it looks silly IF the woman is trying to look younger than she is . . . also, if the hair is not well cared for - raggedy ends, thin, etc. - then perhaps it is best to cut it off. I do think that one day I will BC, just for the experience of it, but yeah, it's not going to be an automatic *snap* I turned 40, time to cut my hair!

Her hair is gorgeous--color & length :yep:

I found more mature gray-haired women, wish I could find some Black women:

This woman is a 45 year old model:

This woman's hair is not super long, but I love the soft waves:

^^^ wow. they all look great. but the last two dont even look old in the face.

i wonder what age you have to be for your hair to go all gray like that. isnt 45 a little too young to be a complete gray?

I don't think you have to be a certain age. I've read of women in their 30's becoming completely gray.

FlowerHair -- Yes!!! I remember that fantastic thread :yep:

I'd love to see pics of Black middle age women with MBL or beyond hair :yep: They are hard or nearly impossible to find, but I know they must exist.

Those pics are great! I doubt I'll cut or color my hair when I start to gray - I didn't START growing it until I was 40, so obviously I don't think middle aged women should cut, lol. The key to looking great as an older woman with long gray hair is to avoid dressing and looking matronly, IMO. The women in both threads' pics have kept their slim silhouettes and wear contemporary clothing.

Wow, their hair looks beautiful. I plan to keep my hair long when I get old too. Great examples of older women with long - and beautiful looking hair.
